SUMMARY:RICHIE GOODS & CHIEN CHIEN: CONNECTED
DESCRIPTION:Richie Goods\, Bass | Chien Chien Lu\, Vibraphone | Matt Wong\, Keys | Tariqh Akoni\, Guitar | Jerome Jennings\, Drums\n\n“CONNECTED” was formed in 2020. During the COVID-19 lockdown\, Richie Goods and Chien Chien had frequent conversations about the Black Lives Matter movement and the unwarranted hate crimes against Asians. They decided to do a project that would unify people and invoke imagery of love and peace. As often happens\, music was the catalyst that bridged the gap and resulted in a rare collaboration; a partnership that produced “The Path” Sep. 2020\, “We Three Kings” Nov. 2020\, and “Rain” Dec. 2021. They decided to cement their musical relationship by creating “CONNECTED”\, their band featuring Miki Hayama on keys\, Quintin Zoto-guitar and Allan Mednard-drums and of course Richie Goods-bass and Chien Chien-vibes. Together\, Richie and Chien Chien are “CONNECTED”\, creating an exciting\, new\, energetic listening experience and attracting new audiences everywhere. Look for their new release\, “Richie Goods & Chien Chien – CONNECTED” due in January\, 2023. RICHIE GOODS – NY bassist Richie Goods\, one of the most versatile and accomplished bass players in the industry and the youngest person ever inducted into the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame\, came to prominence while touring and recording with the late Mulgrew Miller and credits him for much of his success. Richie went on to make a name for himself through recording and touring with a variety of jazz and popular artists including Sting\, The Headhunters\, Louis Hayes Lenny White\, Milt Jackson\, Whitney Houston\, Lisa Fischer\, The Manhattan Transfer and Christina Aguilera\, Alicia Keys and Common and Chris Botti. He tours the US and internationally extensively\, including notable performances at the Monterrey\, Montreal\, Mendocino\, Atlanta\, Detroit\, San Jose\, Rochester\, and Jakarta Java Jazz Festivals as well as the Punta del Este International Jazz Festival. Richie\, a native Pittsburgher\, studied with such luminaries as Ron Carter and Ray Brown. He received critical acclaim for his multiple recordings\, including his 2019 release “My Left Hand Man”\, recorded with THE GOODS PROJECT\, a self- produced tribute to his mentor Mulgrew Miller\, which spent 36 weeks on the JazzWeek charts in 2020. CHIEN CHIEN – Chien Chien (Lu) is a vibraphonist\, contemporary percussionist\, and composer whose Taiwanese upbringing\, classical music education\, and passion for R&B grooves crystallize into a fresh and distinctive approach to contemporary jazz. Chien Chien’s fierce authenticity and jazz mastery shine bright on her September 2020 debut solo project\, The Path\, which spent 20 weeks on the Jazz Week Charts Top 20\, earned Best Jazz Song in the Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA)and three Golden Melody Award nominations\, four GIMA nominations and led to her being named the “vibraphone rising star” in Downbeat Magazine’s 69th Annual Critics Poll. Her band has also played many prestigious festivals including the Clifford Brown and DC Jazz Festivals. She also toured extensively in Europe\, Asia\, and the United States. Chien Chien obtained a master’s degree in classical music and jazz. In 2017 she met jazz trumpeter Jeremy Pelt and was invited to join his esteemed quintet where she met and began collaborating with Richie Goods.

SUMMARY:MONTY ALEXANDER
DESCRIPTION:Monty Alexander O.J.: “Honoring Harry Belafonte” with Luke Sellick & Jason Brown \nFrom Kingston\, Jamaica\, his hometown\, Grammy nominated pianist Monty Alexander is an American classic\, touring the world relentlessly with various projects\, delighting a global audience drawn to his vibrant personality and soulful message. A perennial favorite at Jazz festivals and venues worldwide and at the Montreux Jazz Festival where he has appeared 23 times since 1976\, his spirited conception is one informed by the timeless verities: endless melody-making\, effervescent grooves\, sophisticated voicings\, a romantic spirit\, and a consistent predisposition\, as Alexander accurately states\, “to build up the heat and kick up a storm.” In the course of any given performance\, Alexander applies those aesthetics to a repertoire spanning a broad range of jazz and Jamaican musical expressions—the American songbook and the blues\, gospel and bebop\, calypso and reggae. Documented on more than 75 recordings and cited as the fifth greatest jazz pianist ever in The Fifty Greatest Jazz Piano Players of All Time (Hal Leonard Publishing)\, the Jamaican government designated Alexander Commander in the Order of Distinction in 2000 and in 2018 The University of The West Indies bestowed him with an honorary doctorate degree (DLitt) in recognition of his accomplishments. For this engagement\, Monty\, along with bassist Luke Selick and drummer Jason Brown\, commemorates his long friendship with Harry Belafonte\, Jr. in stories and song. \nShowtimes: 7:00pm | 8:30pm | 9:30pm | 10:30pm

Over the years\, he’s worked with Art Blakey\, Max Roach\, Gil Evans\, Elvin Jones\, Lee Morgan\, and\, most recently\, the Cookers. The San Francisco Chronicle says\, “He is a soul of sensitivity and intelligence\, as well as of explosive\, majestic passion.” “His viscous\, chocolaty tone and depth-charge bursts from the bottom of his range [are] a stark contrast to the current trend for a post-bop homogeneity of tone in the newer generation of saxophone sounds\,” reports JazzWise.

He later studied music with Dr. London Branch\, Alvin Fielder\, and Andy Hardwick at Jackson State University in Jackson\, Mississippi. During his college years\, Jordan joined the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra where he served as Assistant Principal Bassist. It was evident during that first official performance of the newly-formed trio at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in London that Jordan thoroughly understood Roberts’ unique trio conception. Rodney Jordan is one of the most versatile jazz bassists on the scene today. His tone is rich and soulful when he plays hauntingly beautiful phrases with the bow. Just as readily\, he plays fast virtuosic passages with apparent effortless skill. Jordan’s knowledge of harmony from his classical bass training combined with the relentless feeling of swing in his playing is a perfect fit for the powerful melodic\, blues-based\, syncopated improvisational sound of the Marcus Roberts Trio. Live from Lincoln Center/ Pivot-Melvin Jones/Turnaround Records. \nThe Quartet: Rodney Jordan ~ Bass | Avis Berry ~ Vocal | Quentin Baxter ~ Drums | Louis Heriveaux ~ Piano \n

SUMMARY:THAD WILSON QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:“My personality is youthful in nature so my audiences should be prepared for a high-energy musical journey. Blues\, R&B\, Hip Hop\, Gospel\, and Jazz have always been present in my sound. In my travels\, the one thing I’ve discovered is how fragile and beautifully unique the human condition is. When I compose and perform\, I base all of my musical ideas on the interconnectedness of that thing we call the human experience.” – Thad \nThad was born in Fort Dix\, New Jersey. However\, his musical life started as a child living in Montgomery\, Alabama. At fifteen\, he moved back to New Jersey where he was quickly recognized for his talent and awarded the All-American High School Music Award and a place in New Jersey’s All-State Jazz Ensemble. Shortly after\, he began studying privately with Jimmy Owens\, former member of Dizzy Gillespie’s Big Band. It was Jimmy who gave Thad a glimpse into the life of a true professional musician. In his early days\, he performed at the Village Gate\, Blue Note\, Visiones\, Knitting Factory and many other new york city venues. \nWhile in New York\, Thad was a member of Charlie Persip’s Super Band and had a brief stint with Illinois Jacquet. SUMMARY:THE HIGHTOWER HARPER HANG
DESCRIPTION:Singer/Songwriter Tony Hightower is taking up the mantle to be a bridge that ushers R&B audiences into Jazz…Real Jazz. With years of experience as a musical performer and actor with familiar roots that place him firmly within the music’s firmament\, Atlanta-native Hightower is still just getting started on this benevolent turn in his journey. And he is bringing a lot of young people with him. \n\n\nGrowing up in Atlanta with a local legend mother who was a Funk-Rock singer but could sing anything and mentored many singers coming behind her\, Tony learned music first-hand from Bobby Blue Bland and the Platters to Mother’s Finest\, S.O.S. Band and Brick. And as mother Theresa evolved as a first-class singer – shifting her focus to Jazz that resulted in her historic residency at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in once fiercely segregated Buckhead district of Atlanta\, Georgia – so\, too\, did Tony’s taste begin to broaden. The artist that Theresa followed at The Ritz: Freddy Cole\, Nat’s brother. \nTrumpeter Terence Harper started playing the drums at the age of two and at twelve years old began playing the trumpet. While in middle school he began playing the drums for one of the Spelman College Jazz ensembles under the direction of Joe Jennings\, while also being featured on a recording with the Inman Middle School jazz band on both trumpet and drums. \nHarper attended North Atlanta High School Center of the Performing Arts and played trumpet in both jazz band and symphonic band under the direction of Mr. Reginald Colbert. During his high school years he started to focus more on both classical and jazz trumpet and has won numerous auditions during his high school term including the Georgia Music Educators Association All State band\, principal trumpet for the district honor band\, The Talent Development Program and the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony at Emory University. Terence has also attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts camp in Michigan and has also taught trumpet performance and jazz studies at Summerbridge Atlanta at the Lovett School. \nHe graduated from Rutgers University as a classical trumpet major in 2009\, where he studied under William Fielder\, who has been regarded as one of the greatest trumpet instructors of his generation. \nEvery Thursday: Music from 8:00pm ~ Midnight | Hang til 2:00am \nCover: $10.000 | Musicians: $5.00 | Free parking in the lot just past slutty vegan atl
