SUMMARY:BRANDEE YOUNGER TRIO
DESCRIPTION:The sonically innovative Brandee Younger is a harpist\, composer\, and bandleader whose music\, connecting spiritual jazz with classical training and the soulfulness of R&B\, has revolutionized the harp’s role in modern music. In 2022 she made history by becoming the first Black woman to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition\, and in 2024 she earned an NAACP Image Award for her album Brand New Life. \nBrandee was one of six artists who recently received a $525\,000 grant from the Doris Duke Foundation recognizing “the singular role that artists play in enriching life and enlivening society.” She is now the custodian of the harp owned by the legendary Alice Coltrane\, whose work she performed in a recent Carnegie Hall tribute to the late artist. \nEver expanding as an artist\, she also has performed with cultural icons including John Legend\, Lauryn Hill\, and Pharoah Sanders\, and her compositions have been featured in both the Netflix documentary\, “Beyonce: Homecoming\,” and Quincy Jones and Steve McQueen’s “Soundtrack for America.” Brandee’s latest album\, Gadabout Season\, evokes our shared search for joy\, “our search for meaning and beauty amid life’s most complex moments.” \nTickets: Sold Out

SUMMARY:JACQUES SCHWARZ-BART & CARL-HENRI MORISSET
DESCRIPTION:The first form of jazz was called Creole music. It was not only popular in New Orleans but also in Haiti\, Guadeloupe\, Martinique\, and Trinidad. When New Orleans became American\, the connection between musicians from the French post-plantation society began to erode. \nHowever\, the connection between the French Antilles and Haiti never withered. In that tradition\, Guadeloupean jazz musician Jacques Schwarz-Bart has long called upon his Haitian counterparts\, including his musical collaboration with pianist Carl-Henri Morisset. \nMorriset is one of Europe’s premier pianists\, and Schwarz-Bart was voted the best saxophone player in France for 2025. Recently featured together in the group Black Lives\, an all-star group of Black musicians from around the world\, Schwarz-Bart said\, “I released a sax/piano duet album lately\, and I am excited to present this collaboration between Carl-Henri Morisset and myself\, as the symbol of two Caribbean people with one Creole soul.” \nJacques Schwarz-Bart ~ saxophone\nCarl-Henri Morisset ~ piano \nThis is a free but ticketed event. To guarantee your seat\, please pick up your tickets at least 15 minutes prior to the show\, at which point your unclaimed tickets may be used to seat patrons waiting on standby. Tickets will be available for pick-up at the Ticket Office beginning one hour prior to the performance.
