SUMMARY:RENEE ROSNES QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:Renee Rosnes w/ Steve Nelson~vibraphone\, Peter Washington~bass\, & Lewis Nash~drums \nRenee Rosnes is one of the premier jazz pianists and composers of her generation. Rosnes’ already distinguished career continues to reach new levels marked by new music\, exciting collaborations\, and ever-evolving musicianship. Upon moving to New York from Vancouver\, Canada in 1985\, she quickly established a reputation of the highest regard\, touring and recording with such masters as Joe Henderson\, Wayne Shorter\, Bobby Hutcherson\, JJ Johnson\, Buster Williams and James Moody. She was the pianist for the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra\, and a founding member of the all-star ensemble\, the SFJAZZ Collective\, with whom she toured and recorded for six years. Rosnes is married to jazz pianist Bill Charlap\, and the two often perform in a two-piano setting. The duo was featured on four tracks from the 2015 Grammy award winning album\, Tony Bennett & Bill Charlap: The Silver Lining. Rosnes’ 2016 outing Written in the Rocks (Smoke Sessions) was named one of ten Best Jazz Albums of the Year by The Chicago Tribune\, one of the Best Albums in all genres of music by The Nation\, and a Canadian JUNO Award (her 5th). Her 2021 release\, Kinds of Love (Smoke Sessions) was entirely composed during the pandemic and features saxophonist Chris Potter\, bassist Christian McBride\, drummer Carl Allen\, and the Brazilian percussionist Rogério Boccato. Of the recording\, All About Jazz wrote\, “Rosnes elicits some of the most emotive and enthralling music of her career.” \nSteve Nelson\, an outstanding vibraphonist and composer\, started playing piano and vibes as a teenager and progressed quickly enough as to play with guitar-legend Grant Green. As a resident of the New York area\, he has performed and recorded with many great musicians including Kenny Barron\, Bobby Watson\, Mulgrew Miller\, David Fathead Newman\, Johnny Griffin and Jackie McLean. He is currently a member of The Dave Holland’s Band\, Mulgrew Miller’s Wingspan\, and the Lewis Nash Trio. \nPerhaps the most recorded bassist of his generation\, Peter Washington has also played an integral part in two of the most important and highly praised jazz trios of the last 20 years\, in addition to a “who’s who” roster of jazz artists. In 1986\, while performing in San Francisco with alto saxophonist John Handy\, he was asked by Art Blakey to move to New York and join the seminal Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. In the scope and breadth of his career thus far\, his adaptability\, and in his emphasis on creative\, supportive\, swinging time-playing as well as inventive and intelligent soloing\, Washington has been compared to the likes of George Duvivier\, Milt Hinton\, and Ron Carter. \nUniversally recognized as one of the great drummers in jazz history\, Lewis Nash illustrious career now spans over four decades. Nash is one of jazz’s most recorded musicians\, appearing on over 500 recordings including 10 Grammy winners and numerous Grammy nominees. In fact\, Nash has the distinction of being the only musician in jazz history featured on the winners in both the “Best Jazz Vocal” and “Best Jazz Instrumental” album categories in two separate years: the 2004 Grammys with Nancy Wilson and McCoy Tyner\, and again in 2010 with Dee Dee Bridgewater and James Moody. \nFriday 3/10 ~ 7:00 pm  & 9:30 pm | $35~$45 + fee \nSaturday 3/11 ~ 7:00 pm  & 9:30 pm | $35~$45 + fee\nSunday 3/12 5:00 pm & 7:30 pm  | $35~$45 + fee \nStreaming Pass: 5:00pm & 7:00pm only | $10.00 + fee

SUMMARY:NESTOR TORRES | NOT SO QUIET STORM SOUND
DESCRIPTION:Born in Mayaguez\, Puerto Rico\, Nestor Torres moved to New York City\, where he pursued Classical flute studies at Mannes School of Music\, Jazz at Berklee College of Music\, and Classical and Jazz at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. During that time he also learned to improvise in the ‘Charanga’ Cuban Dance Music genre\, which helped shape and develop Torres’ unique melodic and danceable style. This rhythmic and mellifluous sound evolution remains apart in a class by itself with 4 Latin Grammy nominations\, one Grammy nomination and one Latin Grammy Award. In addition to 18 solo recordings\, Torres’ unique collaborations with diverse artists such as Gloria Estefan\, Kenny Loggins\, Dave Mathews\, Paquito d’Rivera\, Herbie Hancock\, Arturo Sandoval\, and Tito Puente; as well as performances with the Cleveland\, Singapore\, and New World Symphony Orchestras among many others\, are testament to his remarkable versatility and artistry. 2017 brought two diverse album releases for Torres; the Latin Grammy Nominated – “Jazz Flute Traditions”\, a spectacular tribute to his jazz flute mentors and influences\, and “del Caribe\, soy!”\, a collection of classical compositions by Latin American composers\, including the great Puerto Rican icon Rafael Hernandez\, alongside contemporary works written for Torres by Tania Leon and Miguel del Aguila. This relentless exploration of musical possibilities without boundaries led to a recent concerto commission by Mariano Morales for a world premiere with Torres and The Lynn Philharmonic. In May 2021 Torres recorded his much-awaited second classical album. The album was produced under the direction of the highly recognized and multi-Grammy winning Russian/Polish (Uruguayan-born) classical composer and conductor Jose Serebrier. In January 2022 Torres released his most recent smooth jazz single\, “Thank You Willie” with an album to follow in early fall of 2022. In addition to his achievements in the studio and on the stage\, Torres is also the recipient of many awards\, including two honorary doctorate degrees from Barry University and Carlos Albizu University\, for his commitment to youth\, education and cultural exchanges. \nBAND MEMBERSJorge Sosa – KeyboardsAgustin Conti – ElectricDouble Bass Rey Monroig – DrumsEdwin Bonilla – Percussion

SUMMARY:TAKE 6
DESCRIPTION:Take 6 (Claude McKnight\, Mark Kibble\, Joel Kibble\, Dave Thomas\, Alvin Chea and Khristian Dentley)\, heralded by Quincy Jones as the “baddest vocal cats on the planet!\,” is the quintessential a cappella group and the model for vocal genius. \nWith 10 Grammy Awards\, 10 Dove Awards\, a Soul Train Award\, and they as Members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame\, this musical phenomenon  has six virtuosic voices united in crystal clear harmony\, against a backdrop of syncopated rhythms\, innovative arrangements\, and funky grooves that bubble into an intoxicating brew of gospel\, jazz\, R&B\, and pop. \nWith collaborations and praise from such luminaries as Ray Charles\, Stevie Wonder\, Brian Wilson\, Ella Fitzgerald and Whitney Houston\, the multi-platinum selling sextet has toured across the globe\, collaborated across genres\, and is recognized as the pre-eminent a cappella group in the world. \nWith their recent appearances including Grammy Honor Paul Simon (set for release soon)releases\, including their upcoming recording tentatively titled A Work Of Art and most recent recording ICONIC\, TAKE 6 emerged on seven (7) Billboard Charts simultaneously and have seen their music played all over the country in various formats!  This April 2022\, the legendary group took to Capitol Hill for Grammys On The Hill to advocate for musicians rights and work. \nWith the popularity of televised vocal competitions such as the explosive a cappella show The Sing Off and the mania over singing driven comedy-dramas like Glee and Smash\, Take 6 is the original torchbearer. Major public and corporate events remind everyone of this as Take 6 has triumphed among a gathering of stars including Celine Dion\, Lionel Richie\, Justin Timberlake\, Stevie Nicks\, and Ne-Yo at Walmart’s 50th Anniversary celebration; a SOLD-OUT audience and Standing Ovation at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards where Take 6 captivated the audience with their rendition\, performing with and honoring legendary singer-songwriter Ben E. King\, on his classic “Stand By Me.” \nTake 6 has come a long way from their days at Huntsville\, Alabama’s Oakwood College where McKnight formed the group as The Gentleman’s Estate Quartet in 1980. The group eventually became known as Alliance but when they signed to Reprise Records in 1987 they found that there was another group with the same name\, so they became Take 6. Their self-titled debut CD won over jazz and pop critics and they’ve never slowed down. \nWhat makes the music and the group last this long? The answers are direct and simple: faith\, friendship\, respect\, and love of music. From their exceptional Christmas Show\, to their innovative Symphony show\, these qualities are at the heart of the Take 6 phenomenon. \nKeystone Kards will not be accepted for this show. \nShowtimes ~ 7:00pm | 9:30pm \nStream @ 7:00pm Only | $10.00

SUMMARY:SAMARA JOY
DESCRIPTION:With her upcoming Verve Records debut\, Linger Awhile\, 22-year-old Samara Joy makes her case to join the likes of Sarah\, Ella\, and Billie as the next mononymous jazz singing sensation recorded by the venerable label. Her voice\, rich and velvety yet precociously refined\, has already earned her fans like Anita Baker and Regina King\, appearances on the TODAY Show and millions of likes on TikTok — cementing her status as perhaps the first Gen Z jazz singing star. On Linger Awhile\, Samara will introduce that massive audience to a slew of classic standards several times older than she is through her timeless\, irresistible sound. \nSamara is still relatively new to jazz. Growing up in the Bronx\, it was music of the past — the music of her parent’s childhoods\, as she put it — that she listened to most. She treasures her musical lineage\, which stretches back to her grandparents Elder Goldwire and Ruth McLendon\, both of whom performed with Philadelphia gospel group the Savettes\, and runs through her father\, who is a singer\, songwriter and producer who toured with gospel artist Andraé Crouch. “Sometimes I catch myself when I’m singing — I’m like\, ‘Whoa\, that was a dad moment’\,” Samara quips. Eventually\, she did follow in the family tradition\, singing in church and then with the jazz band at Fordham High School for the Arts\, with whom she won Best Vocalist at JALC’s Essentially Ellington competition. That led to her enrolling in SUNY Purchase’s jazz studies program\, where she fell deeply in love with the music. \nThough she’s young\, she relishes the process of digging through the music’s history and learning new standards. “I think maybe people connect with the fact that I’m not faking it\, that I already feel embedded in it\,” Samara says. “Maybe I’m able to reach people in person and on social media because it’s real.” The gatekeepers of the jazz world tend to agree: in 2019\, she won the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition\, and she’s since performed with legends like Christian McBride and Bill Charlap. Legendary late pianist Barry Harris was a particularly important influence and mentor. “You inspired me as well as many others with this fire for teaching and playing that couldn’t be dimmed by anything or anyone\,” Samara writes in Linger Awhile’s liner notes\, dedicating the project in part to Harris’ memory. \nSamara is accompanied by esteemed veterans on Linger Awhile as well: her former professors\, guitarist Pasquale Grasso and drummer Kenny Washington\, form the core of the band\, which also includes bassist David Wong and pianist Ben Paterson. With ease and a preternatural assurance\, Samara swings right alongside them through understated yet powerful renditions of this creative collection of standards. \nThe 8:00pm shows both evenings are SOLD OUT!!!
