SUMMARY:RENE MARIE
DESCRIPTION:Part of René’s musical philosophy has been focused on giving back. In 2010\, she launched a series of vocal therapy group sessions called SLAM. “I’ve never been to college or received any ‘professional’ training\,” she said at the time\, “so I feel a bit anxious about my ability to convey my personal approach to singing. However\, I know what I know\, and I’ve always been up for a good challenge.” And in a self-deprecating moment\, she added: “Although the thought of attempting to share my vocal philosophy often makes me wonder if I have completely lost touch with reality.” \nRené joined the Motéma label with the 2011 release of Voice of My Beautiful Country\, followed later that same year by Black Lace Freudian Slip. Her 2013 followup\, I Wanna Be Evil: With Love To Eartha Kitt\, earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Jazz Vocals category. Her Sound of Red album has been nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. \nPerhaps more than most artists\, René understands music’s capacity to heal and inspire. Not only has she herself been the beneficiary of it\, but she has made every effort along the way to extend those same benefits to others. \n“I have never forgotten the early lessons learned about the power of music\,” she says. “Today\, I try to imbue that feeling of emotion into every song I write and every song I sing – every time. I am very happy to be alive today\, doing the things I love to do – singing\, composing\, writing\, teaching and arranging. \nCover: $29.95 ~ $46.35

As The New York Times notes\, his “crisp articulation and blues-inflected harmony evoke another era… multifaceted and dynamic\,” seamlessly blending tradition with fresh innovation to captivate audiences. Chestnut’s artistry has earned him widespread acclaim as one of the most distinctive and compelling jazz pianists of his generation. The album\, voted Best Jazz Album by the Village Voice\, soared on the charts. \nChestnut has worked with such leading artists as saxophonists Donald Harrison and Joe Lovano; trumpeters Roy Hargrove and Freddie Hubbard; pianist Chick Corea\, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, the Boston Pops\, and opera singer Kathleen Battle\, as well as vocalists Vanessa Williams\, Anita Baker\, Bette Midler and Isaac Hayes. \nToday he tours continually\, playing at jazz festivals\, clubs and concert halls around the world. SUMMARY:ANAT COHEN QUARTETINHO
DESCRIPTION:Following great success at some of the world’s great jazz festivals and venues with her Tentet\, Grammy-nominated clarinetist and composer Anat Cohen shifts her focus to an intimate group sound with her newest band\, the endlessly colorful Quartetinho (pronounced “quar-te-CHIN-yo\,” i.e.\, little quartet). \nThe group of New York-based international multi-instrumentalist-virtuosos are all drawn from the ranks of her aforementioned Tentet. The idea of instrumental doubling to achieve a wide stylistic range comes from the larger group\, and the spirit of this cross-cultural / stylistic ensemble ring true throughout their performances. They share a deep love for music in all its heterogeneity and it’s all amply represented in both recordings and the band’s own live show. The result is boundlessly melodic and lyrical\, with a wide array of timbres and subtle details of orchestration. \nThe Group:\nClarinet: Anat Cohen\nBass: Tal Mashiach\nPiano/Accordion: Vitor Gonçalves\nVibraphone/Percussion: James Shipp \nCover: $40.61 ~ $50.91
