SUMMARY:DENISE KING & THE NEW YORK KOLLECTION
DESCRIPTION:Influenced by Sarah Vaughan\, Nancy Wilson Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin\, Denise King is an expressive\, big-voiced vocalist that combines jazz with elements of R&B\, Blues and Gospel. Born and raised in Philadelphia\, PA at the young age of twelve she discovered R&B and jazz thanks to an uncle who was a record collector that loved jazz. Denise King is\, brimming with energy\, good humor\, and swings with authentic jazz expression! As part of a tradition rooted in the history of jazz\, she fully lives the songs she sings. \nThough she’s no stranger to standards\, one of King’s strong points has been her ability to provide jazz interpretations of rock and soul hits\, sharing the stage with such legends as Lex Humphries\, Ted Curson\, Arthur Harper\, Brecker Brothers\, Cecil Payne\, Cecil McBee\, Sid Simmons Christian McBride\, Jerry Weldon\, Bootsie Barnes and many more. It is with these musicians that she learned the art of Jazz singing. \nThe European dream for jazz artists remains strong in its history\, and a gateway of empowerment for African Américan artists. As an international performer\, King has delighted audiences from the USA\, France\, Italy\, Belgium\, Cyprus\, Serbia\, Belarus\, Poland\, Japan\, Kazakstan\, Spain\, Russia\, Siberia\,Greece\, UK\, Turkey\, Azerbaijan\, Mahachcala\, Luxembourg and participated in the International Jazz Day in Paris. \nDenise is likened to a“natural singer” for she organically learned to sing\, outside of any educational system\, but through the natural progression of listening to recordings and watching live jazz performances.

You can feel the collective weight of that experience in their CDs and especially in their live performances. \nDavid Weiss\, trumpet\nEddie Henderson\, trumpet\nDonald Harrison\, alto sax\nBilly Harper\, tenor sax\nGeorge Cables\, piano\nCecil McBee\, bass\nBilly Hart\, drums \nShowtimes: \nStreaming: Fri\, Sat\, November 18~19\, 7:30 pm | Sun\, November 20\, 5:00 pm\n$10 + $1.70 fee \nLive: Fri\, Sat\, November 18~19\, 7:30 & 10:00 pm | Sun\, November 20\, 5:00 pm\n$35 – $45 + $3.46 – $4.16 fee

SUMMARY:TAWANDA
DESCRIPTION:With John DiMartino\, Marco Panascia & Tim Horner \nAn official Resonance Records CD Release performance! The first 30 ticket buyers will receive a FREE copy of Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim’s newest release\, “SMILE!”  \nSince she grew up in the Deep South to a mother from Germany and a father from Mozambique\, her unique cultural DNA opened up her heart and mind to many worlds of music that are still an integral part of everything she sings. \nJazz is one form of music that transcends most other genres and has done so throughout the ages. Its complexity\, off beat rhythms\, sophistication and constant desire to improvise and evolve itself courses through its precious origins. Those traditions run deep within the soul of award-winning vocalist Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim and there is no greater gift than seeing her sing her story in full flight. \nA vibrant mix of cultural heritages that underpin her every move\, Tawanda was raised in the deep south of New Mexico on the border with Texas. She is proudly a first generation American with a mother from Germany and a father from Mozambique. That fusion of intoxicating backgrounds gave her access to music that many do not experience and which will forever stay in her heart. \nAlways looking forward\, Tawanda delves deep into the worldwide Jazz scene and explores the multi-genre fusion that can be found in its paradise of riches. That desire to respect not only her peers but the origins of her name which translates as ‘we are more’ in a Bantu dialect called Shona\, has embedded a deep-rooted desire within her to give back to those around her. \nThere is no better affirmation of her talent than winning the prestigious 2020 Sarah Vaughan Vocal Jazz competition. Now based in Los Angeles and with a whole host of performances that have enthralled audiences everywhere\, Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim is set to soar on the wings of success.

SUMMARY:TOM HARRELL QUINTET
DESCRIPTION:The trumpeter Tom Harrell has been doing this a long time\, through various schools and vogues: He can play slow and fast and in between\, sometimes all within a single line. But his improvising is always temperate and proportionate. He keeps you on the hook\, but doesn’t shout\, doesn’t stop the clock. Plenty of improvisers are specialists in now-ness\, revealing a solo as a series of events\, or present-tense flashes. With Mr. Harrell\, it’s all one event. He’s always processing ahead and behind\, and you feel as if you’re hearing the whole of the narrative at all times\, from was to is to will be. \nTom Harrell – Trumpet\, Flugelhorn\nDayna Stephens – Saxophone\nLuis Perdomo – Piano\nUgonna Okegwo – Bass\nAdam Cruz – Drums

DESCRIPTION:Betty Carter is in all truthfulness\, whether I remember it each day or not\, effectively my musical mother. Art Blakey\, Ray Brown\, Oscar Peterson\, Milt Jackson and Freddie Hubbard all blessed my life by inviting me to participate in their music\, included me on their recordings and live shows\, and Art\, Ray and Freddie even recorded my original tunes on their records. I have something to share today because I got to play with the hardest swinging bassist and drummer in the history of jazz; i got to feel this! \ni have always wanted to belong and be included and be a part of the music\, Black-American music\, Jazz. anyone who has ever gotten to know me or been in my home\, knows exactly what i’m about. i love classic Blue Note quintet records\, and the sound and feeling of a trumpet-saxophone front line like Lee Morgan and Hank Mobley or Kenny Dorham and Jackie McLean\, is what i love\, and it inspires the music i write. i am a Jazz Messenger\, my life is dedicated to Jazz.

SUMMARY:KURT ELLING FEATURING CHARLIE HUNTER
DESCRIPTION:Grammy-winning vocalist Kurt Elling returns in style with an album of indelible beats\, boisterous funk and unforgettable new lyrics in collaboration with co-producer and guitarist Charlie Hunter and a star-studded band with pianist Kenny Banks Jr.\, and Marcus Finnie on drums. \nAfter scoring his second GRAMMY Award and 14th nomination in March 2021\, the protean vocalist Kurt Elling hangs an unexpected left turn with SuperBlue for Edition Records. Elling has always been a master of grooves\, ranging from bebop to pure pop and progressive jazz to neo-soul\, but he’s never filled an album with grooves quite like these. Thanks to newly sprung melody and lyrics from Elling\, along with Hunter & co.’s fresh grooves\, SuperBlue features all-new songs\, innovative takes on compositions from jazz lions Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard\, and a raw and stripped-down treatment of “The Seed\,” a still-dynamic\, decades-old riff on immortality written by Cody Chestnutt. SUMMARY:CÉCILE MCLORIN SALVANT | OGRESSE
DESCRIPTION:“She falls in love. She eats the guy. She dies.” \nJazz meets theater in Ogresse\, a new musical journey of myth and song created by award-winning vocalist and master storyteller Cécile McLorin Salvant. With its dark\, romantic “fairytale-like” story\, Ogresse is a delightfully poignant and playful addition to Salvant’s\, award-winning\, eclectic body of work. \n“There’s this monstrous vile strength in her\, a little bit of madness\,” Salvant says of the titular beast. “The songs are these beautifully matched beads on a necklace that hang together so well\, conjuring archetypes and exploring matters of race and sexuality\, and our fears and prejudices. It’s one of my most thrilling moments as a singer.”

SUMMARY:RUSSELL MALONE
DESCRIPTION:Russell Malone is one of the signature guitar players of his generation. The leader of ten albums since 1992\, Malone is as well-known on the international circuit for helming a world-class quartet and trio as he is for his long-standing participation in Ron Carter’s Golden Striker Trio\, and his recent consequential contribution to the musical production of the likes of Sonny Rollins and Dianne Reeves\, who recruited Malone for his singular tone\, refined listening skills\, limitless chops\, and efflorescent imagination. In all these circumstances\, Malone addresses the tradition on its own terms\, refracting the vocabularies and syntax of such heroes as Charlie Christian\, Chet Atkins\, George Van Eps\, Johnny Smith\, Wes Montgomery\, Grant Green\, Kenny Burrell\, Pat Martino\, and George Benson into an argot entirely his own. A master of all tempos\, a relentless swinger\, he spins his stories —in idioms ranging from the urban and downhome blues\, country\, gospel\, various corners of the American Songbook\, and hardcore jazz—with a soulful\, instantly recognizable instrumental voice\, and seasons them with sophisticated harmonies that are never “too hip for the room.” “I take pride on being open enough to play with anybody\,” says Malone\, citing encounters with such diverse artists as B.B. King\, Aretha Franklin\, Gladys Knight\, Andy Williams\, James “Blood” Ulmer\, and Ornette Coleman. “I love to swing\, but I don’t look down my nose at other styles of music\, or other musicians. I’ll play with anybody\, if the music is good.” \nRussell Malone: Guitar \nRick Germanson: Piano \nVincent DuPont: Bass \nNeal Smith: Drums
