Chestnut’s artistry has earned him widespread acclaim as one of the most distinctive and compelling jazz pianists of his generation. As The New York Daily News aptly describes him\, he is “the rightful heir to Bud Powell\, Art Tatum\, and Erroll Garner.” \nAt age nine Chestnut was enrolled in the prep program at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore. He later headed to Berklee College of Music in Boston\, where he received the Eubie Blake fellowship\, the Oscar Peterson scholarship\, and the Quincy Jones scholarship. \nAfter graduating from Berklee in 1985\, Chestnut went on to work with vocalist Jon Hendricks and trumpeter Terrence Blanchard before joining jazz legend Wynton Marsalis. He toured for two years as the pianist for the Betty Carter Trio and has often said that playing with Carter was a form of graduate school. \nBy 1994\, Chestnut had graduated from being an accompanist and band member by forming and leading his own trio\, then releasing his major label debut album Revelations. DESCRIPTION:The Steinway Artist and Grammy Nominee is an emerging jazz force. The early influences of John Coltrane\, Ornette Coleman\, Cannonball Adderley\, and his father\, Dewey Redman\, as well as The Beatles\, Aretha Franklin\, the Temptations\, Earth\, Wind and Fire\, Prince\, The Police\, and Led Zeppelin drew Joshua more deeply into music. \nAfter graduating from Harvard College with a B.A. in Social Studies\, he had already been accepted by Yale Law School\, but deferred entrance for what he believed was only going to be one year to join friends in Brooklyn. Redman almost immediately found himself immersed in the New York jazz scene. SUMMARY:PIECES OF A DREAM
DESCRIPTION:The group was formed in Philadelphia during 1976 by bassist Cedric Napoleon\, drummer Curtis Harmon\, and keyboardist James Lloyd who were all teenagers at the time. The group based their name on “Pieces of Dreams”\, a Michel Legrand tune recorded by Stanley Turrentine that they regularly performed. In 1981 Pieces of a Dream had a minor soul hit with “Warm Weather” with vocals by singer Barbara Walker and synthesizer by Dexter Wansel\, which was recorded on Elektra Records and co-produced by Dexter Wansel. In late 1983\, the group had their most successful single\, “Fo-Fi-Fo”\, which peaked at No. 13 on the US soul chart. During their time with Elektra Records from 1981 to 1983\, the group’s first three albums were produced by saxophonist Grover Washington\, Jr. \nOver the course of their nearly 50 year career they have released twenty albums\, the last of which was Fired Up in 2021 and the final recording session for bassist Cedric A.
