SUMMARY:50 SHADES OF O: ORRIN EVANS
DESCRIPTION:50 SHADES OF O: Orrin Evans’ 50th Birthday Celebration with the Orrin Evans Trio and special guest vocalist Ms. Lisa Fischer! Orrin Evans and his 2x Grammy-nominated Captain Black Big Band released and will be performing music from their new studio album\, Walk A Mile In My Shoe! \nFor more than two decades\, Yamaha pianist Orrin Evans has made an art form of the unexpected. With more than 25 albums to his credit without ever relying on the support of a major label\, Evans has become the model of a fiercely independent artist who’s made a habit of rattling the jazz world’s confining cages. That determination has paid off in accolades like topping the “Rising Star Pianist” category in the 2018 DownBeat Critics Poll and two Grammy nominations. As an adventurous composer he traverses stylistic boundaries with abandon\, drawing on full-throttle swing\, deep rooted blues\, expressive soul or bracing excursions into the avant-garde. \nAfter four decades of featured background singing with icons like Luther Vandross\, The Rolling Stones\, Chaka Khan\, Tina Turner\, and Nine Inch Nails\, Ms. Lisa Fischer set out to take center stage with her own humble\, heartfelt song. The 2013 Best Documentary Oscar winning film “Twenty Feet from Stardom” altered the course of Lisa’s musical journey\, telling her story\, with clips of her legendary duets with Sting or with Mick Jagger on “Gimme Shelter”\, left audiences eager to see and hear more. \nThe Lineup: \nMs. Lisa Fischer ~ vocals\nOrrin Evans ~ piano\nRobert Hurst ~ bass\nJeff “Tain” Watts ~ drums \nTickets: $45.00 ~ $55.00 + fee | Streaming: 6:00pm Only ~ $15.00 + fee

SUMMARY:ARTEMIS
DESCRIPTION:ARTEMIS is a powerful ensemble of modern jazz masters\, founded in 2017 by pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes. In Real Time––the band’s second release on Blue Note Records––has been garnering universal acclaim. NPR wrote that “it further establishes their prowess both as individuals and as a collective…a femme fatale supergroup\,” and from the Times of London\, “robust voicings\, free-jazz diversions and searching modal patterns all feature in the intricate style of ARTEMIS…so distinctive is each voice and so striking is their sense of unity.” DownBeat hailed the music as “deep swinging” and a “stellar follow up” to the band’s debut album in 2020. Each musician is a bandleader and composer and every performance encompasses inspired arrangements of classics and originals. \nRenee Rosnes ~ piano & keyboard\nIngrid Jensen ~ trumpet\nNicole Glover ~ tenor saxophone\nNoriko Ueda ~ bass\nAllison Miller ~ drums \nTickets: $35.00 ~ $45.00 + fee | Streaming:  $15.00 + fee

SUMMARY:CYRILLE AIMÉE QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:Cyrille Aimée grew up in a multilingual household full of music where dancing was an everyday activity\, soundtracked by the Afro-Caribbean sounds of her mother’s native Dominican Republic. The family home was in Samois-sur-Seine\, the location of the Django Reinhardt Festival\, and the teenage Cyrille would climb out of her bedroom window at night to mingle with the players\, igniting a passion for jazz. \nMoving to New York City\, her talents quickly gained her a reputation among her peers as a matchless interpreter of song. She performed and recorded with Roy Hargrove and stole the show in front of the notoriously hard-to-please crowd at the Harlem Apollo. Steven Sondheim invited her to star in a tribute at New York’s City Centre\, backed by Wynton Marsalis. Her 2019 album Move On featured versions of Sondheim’s songs which received praise from Sondheim himself\, and her version of “Marry Me a Little”\, was nominated for a 2019 Grammy Award. \nAt the height of her New York success\, new horizons beckoned. Visiting New Orleans\, she fell in love with the energy and diversity of the city and made it her home. Linking back to New York to connect up all the dots\, she teamed up with producer/multi-instrumentalist Jake Sherman\, and together they have created her latest album\, A Fleur de Peau. to be released on a new label\, the London-based imprint Whirlwind Recordings. \nCombining the depth and sophistication of jazz\, the immediacy of pop\, the irrepressible dance rhythms of the Caribbean\, it’s more intimate and more accessible than anything Cyrille has done before. \nCover: $50.00~$55.00
