SUMMARY:MARIA HOWELL & NOEL FRIEDLINE
DESCRIPTION:Noel Freidline and Maria Howell reimagine Motown. 27 number 1 hits\, over 60 top 10 hits. Motown had so many hits that one could put together five separate shows of their music and still have plenty of songs left over.  The exemplary songwriting of Smokey Robinson\, Holland/Dozier/Holland\, as well as Berry Gordy himself\, along with the interpretation by such legends as Marvin Gaye\, The Temptations\, Diana Ross and the Supremes and many more has left us with a repertoire that is prime for reinterpretation.  Join Noel & Maria as they reinterpret and reimagine the music that defined the 60’s\, the Motown Sound! \nPersonnel:\nNoel Freidline ~ Piano\nMaria Howell ~ Vocal\nJuan Rollan ~ Saxophone\nZack Page ~ Guitar\nJustin Varnes ~ Drums

SUMMARY:STANLEY JORDAN
DESCRIPTION:In a career that took flight with immediate commercial success and critical acclaim\, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a chameleonic musical persona of openness\, imagination\, versatility and maverick daring. Be it bold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits\, to blazing straight ahead jazz forays and ultramodern improvisational works—solo or with a group—Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners on breathless journeys into the unexpected. \nKey to Jordan’s fast-track acclaim was his mastery of a special technique on the guitar’s fretboard. Instead of conventional strumming and picking\, Jordan’s innovative “touch technique” is an advanced form of two-handed tapping. While a handful of other players were using similar techniques\, Stanley’s fluid\, multi-layered textures and sheer virtuosity raised the bar for excellence. \nShowtimes: \n7:00 pm | Thurs\, Sun ~ $30.00\, Fri\, Sat ~ $35.00 \n9:00 pm | Thurs\, Sun ~ $20.00\, Fri\, Sat ~ $35.00 \n$15 food/beverage minimum per person not included in ticket price.

SUMMARY:AN EVENING WITH PAT METHENY
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Pat Metheny w/ Antonio Sanchez\, Linda May Han Oh & Gwilym Simcock \nNEA Jazz Master Pat Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton\, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style\, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility – a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody\, swing\, and the blues. With the release of his first album\, Bright Size Life (1975)\, he reinvented the traditional “jazz guitar” sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career\, Pat Metheny has continued to re-define the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Metheny’s versatility is almost nearly without peer on any instrument. Over the years\, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny’s body of work includes compositions for solo guitar\, small ensembles\, electric and acoustic instruments\, large orchestras\, and ballet pieces\, with settings ranging from modern jazz to rock to classical. \nShowtimes: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMon\, September 19~20\, 7:00 pm & 9:30 pm\n$90 – $100 + $7.31 – $8.01 fee
