DESCRIPTION:Vincent Herring – alto saxophone\nJeremy Pelt – trumpet\nJames Carter – tenor saxophone\nPaul Bollenbeck – guitar\nDavid Kikoski – piano\nEssiet Essiet – bass\nJeff “Tain” Watts – drums \nThe fiery and soulful alto saxophonist Vincent Herring convenes a spectacular all-star octet featuring Jeremy Pelt\, James Carter\, Paul Bollenback\, David Kikoski\, Essiet Essiet\, and Jeff “Tain” Watts. WNPR reports that “Herring fuses instrumental mastery with equal and unified parts of jazz’s holy trinity of heart\, mind\, and soul\,” which is also a perfect description of this project. Something Else! was the only Blue Note album recorded by the great alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley. Released in 1958\, it became an iconic masterpiece for its blend of heart\, mind\, and soul. Something Else!\, the band\, takes its inspiration from this soul-warming music with new arrangements and original compositions in the same spirit. \nShowtimes: 7:00pm | 9:00pm | 10:30pm \nStreaming: $15.00 ~ Friday & Saturday Shows \nFess Applied To All Ticket/Pass Purchases \n

SUMMARY:PAULA WEST
DESCRIPTION:Vocal Legend Paula West is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of  her 1998 Temptation album at the Herbst Theatre. For this quarter-century celebration of Temptation\, she revisits the album’s eclectic song list\, from Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed’s 1933 title tune to Billie Holiday’s “Don’t Explain\,” delivered in her singular style. \nThe San Francisco jazz treasure is not the kind of singer who uses her voice like an instrument\, improvising long scat solos. She prefers to work around the edges of a melody\, stretching a word here or clipping a phrase there so that each piece sounds as if it was written with her voice in mind. When not enthralling Bay Area audiences\, Paula has become a Manhattan fixture\, earning New York Nightlife Awards for Outstanding Female Jazz Vocalist. In 2013\, trumpet luminary Wynton Marsalis recruited her to sing the lead role in the reprise of his Pulitzer Prize-winning opus Blood On the Fields.  \nThis performance is part of the 40th San Francisco Jazz Festival running June 7~18\, 2023
