SUMMARY:NICOLE HENRY
DESCRIPTION:2024 marks Nicole Henry’s 20th Anniversary of her debut CD release\, “The Nearness of You.” In celebrating\, Henry will perform songs from her 8-CD repertoire and tell stories of her journey! \nCelebrating a 20-year recording career with eight critically acclaimed chart-topping albums\, Nicole Henry is the recipient of a Soul Train Award for “Best Traditional Jazz Performance\,” and she has garnered four Top-Ten jazz albums on the U.S. Billboard\, JazzWeek\, HMV Japan\, and U.K. Sweet Rhythms charts. Hot House Jazz said\, “Few voices can set a listening room on fire\, then let it burn into a cinder like Nicole Henry’s.” The New York Times\, Miami Herald\, and Jazz Times Magazine have compared her to Sarah Vaughan\, Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston for her dynamic range\, impeccable phrasing\, and ability to connect to a lyric. SUMMARY:JOE ALTERMAN
DESCRIPTION:Joe Alterman began at NYU with a BA and Masters in Jazz Piano\, followed by performances with Houston Person\, Les McCann\, Dick Gregory\, and Ramsey Lewis. Downbeat describes his sound as ‘ rooted in the blues\, and with a touch reminiscent of the great pianists of the 1950s—Red Garland\, Ahmad Jamal\, Bill Evans. It is clear Joe hits all of the necessary points for Jazz critics and fans alike. \nBut there is more to the story\, of course. The twenty-first century has thus far seen yet another transition for this thing called Jazz. In one moment we see the push and pull between tradition and progression\, and in another we see Pop and Hip-Hop musicians emulating and sampling. In Joe Alterman we find none of this struggle; the music just sounds good. Our conscious faculties are instantly disabled as we tap our feet\, feeling the intent and joy of his playing. An old classic is new when you feel good in the moment. \nThe Band: Joe Alterman — piano | Aaron Jacobs — bass | Jim Leslie — drums \nCover: $20.00

SUMMARY:CHARITO
DESCRIPTION:Distinctively a most prominent jazz vocalist in Japan with multi-awarded albums recorded and released internationally\, Charito’s artistry continues to establish its global presence with her recent and forthcoming tours in Europe\, Asia\, North and Latin America. \nHer highly personal and expressive vocal style incorporates the breadth of her musical interests\, from straight-ahead soulful ballads to hard-swinging grooves and improvisational adventures. Her approach is fresh and invigorating\, paying tribute to the jazz tradition while interacting and exploring\, always seeking to express herself in the moment. \nIn Ms. Nancy Wilson’s words\,  ”The first time I heard Charito\, I physically and emotionally embraced her and thought myself beautiful\, that came from the heart and the soul. She has a warm way of presenting a song and she represents what a singer really is\, a song stylist.” ~  for ‘This Girl’ 1990 \nBand: Hidehiko Kan (ds)\, Michel Rosciglioni(b)\, Vinh Le (p)
