The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is leaving the Midwest for Bull City in the Mid~Atlantic state of North Carolina. The city is Durham and the Bull Durham tobacco brand is synonymous to the city. However, not to be distracted, this voyager is going to the social hub for music in the heart of downtown, Missy Lane’s Assembly Room, for an evening of jazz.
Bassist Butler Knowles is leading the jazz jam sets into the night and I am always curious to discover what new and established talent will turn out to perform. This is always one of my favorite expeditions as I always catch a different groove in each city I visit.
The vibe is cocktail lounge with plush couches, candlelit tables, chandeliers and baby grands coupled with late night bites for fingering. The $20.00 reservation deposit is applied towards the minimum, with no refund for any unspent portion.
Missy Lane’s Assembly Room is located at 310 E. Main Street 27701 For more information contact the venue at https://www.missylanes.com.

Daily Dose Of Jazz…
Eric Soleil was born July 9, 1961 on the wind-swept plains of the Kansas prairie and began his musical career in elementary school where he was forced to play the trumpet that was handed down from his older brothers. He infuriated his band instructor by making up his own parts instead of playing the fourth-chair lines intended for him. He also began to compose little pieces on the family’s upright piano. In high school, Eric pursued concert choir and the thespian arts, earning a theater scholarship to college. At 19 years of age, he began studying the electric bass.
Deeply rooted in classical music, he also had an adoration for American jazz, which led to incorporating classic orchestral voices with some neo-Baroque, jazzified idioms that became Jazz-Symphonia. He later played the baritone, french horn, trombone, finally settling on the tuba where he remains an inveterate bass clef performer.
A unique blend of symphonic instruments with jazzy undertones, JasmPhonia is the nom de guerre of Eric, a gifted multi-instrumentalist/composer who utilizes acoustic symphonic voices and midi composition to create a rich mixture of chamber music and Nu-jazz styling. Eric has compiled his first CD, “Ad Astra Per Aspera” (To The Stars Thru Difficulty).
Tubist Eric Soleil continues to pursue a career in music, writing from the keyboard, drums, and bass, and performing his own unique original compositions. He is also continuously developing his skills as an artist, producer, and engineer.

The Jazz Voyager
Heading to O’Hare to catch a morning flight to NOLA to experience far beyond the French Quarter the city that gave the world Congo Square, Storyville and Preservation Hall. This week I’ll be sitting in the infamous Snug Harbor. Opening some thirty years ago in the Faubourg Marigny in the 7th Ward, it’s just downriver from the French Quarter and has been known as the place locals go for live music since the 1980s. Anchoring Frenchmen Street between Royal and Chartres Streets, there’s Live music 7 nights a week.
On the stage is bassist, composer, and bandleader Jasen Weaver who is a New Orleans native of New Orleans, who has established himself as a vital part of the city’s jazz scene and beyond. This will be this voyager’s first time witnessing his talent and of course will be at the second show at 9:30pm.
Cover: $41.30
Snug Harbor is located at 626 Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, LA 70116. For more information contact the venue at https://snugjazz.com/calendar.
