DESCRIPTION:As a part of Miami’s vibrant music scene\, singer/songwriter Leesa Richards grew up in music-rich Detroit and started showing an inclination towards the arts at a very early age. “My parents listened to a lot of jazz and I would record myself over and over singing along to Nancy Wilson records\,” she says. But when she saw Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater\, she knew she wanted to be a dancer. She graduated from University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a degree in dance and began her career on stage performing with a variety of dance companies. \nShe began honing her vocal chops with soul greats Gerald Austin and Peabo Bryson and contemporary soul maverick Dionne Farris. Her first world tour was as a dancer with legendary singer Whitney Houston after which she combined her love for music and dance to earn the role of Mary Magdalene in the national tour of the Broadway musical\, Jesus Christ Superstar\, earning critical acclaim which led to featured performances throughout the US and Europe. \nRenowned jazz trumpeter Jean Caze\, stands as a prominent figure in today’s jazz scene. His magnetic performances have graced stages alongside icons such as Herbie Hancock\, Aretha Franklin\, Mariah Carey\, Al Jarreau\, Roy Hargrove\, Arturo Sandoval\, and George Duke\, among others. Currently serving as the featured soloist for Michael Bublé worldwide\, Jean’s musical journey traces back to his roots in Queens\, NY\, where his passion ignited at the age of nine. By his senior year\, he showcased his talent on national television with “Chicago” on NBC. \nJean’s dedication to his craft earned him scholarships\, accolades\, and widespread recognition\, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree from Manhattan School of Music and a Master’s from Florida International University. DESCRIPTION:Jacky Terrasson\, the most widely traveled of all jazz pianists\, is the “piano player of happiness\,” according to Telerama magazine in France. He is an exhilarating musician\, one of those who play their public straight to euphoria. Born in Berlin\, of an American mother and a French father\, he grew up in Paris\, France. He moved to America to study at Berklee College of Music\, and in 1993\, after winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Award\, he began touring with Betty Carter. He then decided to move to New York\, where he still lives today. \nOne year later\, Jacky was introduced in the New York Times Magazine as one of the 30 under 30 and signed with the Blue Note label. He made three initial trio recordings for Blue Note (Jacky Terrasson\, Reach\, and Alive). He then devoted himself to several collaborations: “Rendezvous”\, with Cassandra Wilson\, and “What it is”\, with Michael Brecker and Mino Cinelu. Beginning in 2001\, he recorded “A Paris” for Blue Note; a very personal interpretation of classics of French song “Smile\,” (winning him Best Jazz Album of the Year); and finally a solo album\, “Mirror.” \nThis Franco-American national has never stopped dazzling us\, either by his prestigious collaborations with greats such as Dee Dee Bridgewater and Dianne Reeves\, or with his minimalist and energetic music hammered out with drummer Leon Parker and bassist Ugonna Okegwo\, in a trio that was considered one of the best jazz trios of the 90s. And this intuition\, this instinct\, this openness\, leads him to the discovery of the great burgeoning talents of his many groups. \nTerrasson has been compared to Bud Powell for his carefully controlled velocity on the piano keys and to Ahmad Jamal for his sense of phrasing. Jacky also possesses a deep knowledge of the great French composers savants\, such as Ravel\, Fauré and Debussy. Through his fingers\, as he mingles and melts the colors and the inventions of the great pianists of yesterday and today\, Jacky creates his own style\, all in subtleties\, freshness\, facility and ease\, with the desire to rewrite and reinvent\, again\, every day and forever. \nIn 2019\, Jacky released “53\,” a trio album (his favorite format)\, on Blue Note.

As a leader\, Cyrus has released 24 albums. \nBill Easley has had a diversified career as a professional musician and started playing professionally with his parents at the age of thirteen. He began playing the piano at the age of four. Monty is such a virtuoso on his instrument that he can express each of his improvisational ideas at any time. DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed singer-songwriter Gregory Porter was raised in Bakersfield\, California\, and he cites the Bakersfield Southern Gospel sound as well as his mother’s Nat King Cole record collection as fundamental influences on his own sound. In 2013 he released his breakout Blue Note debut Liquid Spirit\, which sold more than a million albums and earned Porter his first Grammy Award\, with NPR declaring him “America’s next great jazz singer.” \nHis 2016 follow-up Take Me to the Alley won Porter his second Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album and firmly established him as his generation’s most soulful jazz singer-songwriter. His 2021 release Still Rising collects new songs\, covers\, duets\, and a selection of his much-loved favorite songs. \nFeaturing Jean Baylor and Marcus Baylor\, The Baylor Project is a duo built on love\, family\, faith\, culture\, and community. Their debut\, The Journey\, garnered two Grammy nominations. Their second album\, Generations (2021)\, earned the duo its first NAACP Image Award win for Outstanding Jazz Album-Vocal and its fourth Grammy nomination. \nMarcus and Jean’s combined musicianship is unmatched. Their dynamic performances are soulful to the bone. The Baylors will raise you up and inspire you to clap along with them to a swinging mid-tempo tune. Yet\, at a moments’ notice\, you may be moved to tears when they change the atmosphere with a spiritual song that will stir the emotions.

DESCRIPTION:To celebrate WCLK 91.9’s 50th Anniversary the Atlanta Jazz Festival is presenting WCLK At 50: Featuring Lil John Roberts with an Atlanta All-Star Band. \nAward-winning drummer Lil John Roberts will lead an Atlanta All-Star Band including these outstanding musicians: Phil Davis\, Rodney Edge\, Tres Gilbert\, Derek Scott\, Miguel Gaeten\, Melvin Jones\, Joe Gransden\, Kebbi Williams\, Jamel Mitchell\, Mike Burton\, Saunders Sermons\, and Daniel Wytanis. \nThere will be special guest performances by Kathleen Bertrand\, Cleveland Jones\, Rhonda Thomas\, Imani Grace-Cooper\, Julie Dexter\, Tony Hightower\, Dashill Smith\, and Alexandra Jackson. \nAs the Narrator\, Jon Goode will weave in stories about the history and legacy of WCLK. Lil John Robert serves as the concert’s Music Director. The event is Co-Produced by Jamal Ahmad\, Lil John Roberts\, and Ray Cornelius.

As Miles Davis said\, “Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk\, and I haven’t heard anybody yet who has come after him.” \nNow in the sixth decade of his professional life\, Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of world culture\, technology\, business\, and music. In addition to being recognized as a legendary pianist and composer\, he has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz\, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings. \nHancock is currently in the studio at work on a new album. He is a true icon of modern music. Throughout his explorations\, he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice\, and he continues to amaze audiences across the globe.
