DESCRIPTION:Hailing from New York City and a musical family\, this celebrated jazz pianists and Grammy winner Bill Charlap brings the celebrated soloist\, composer\, bandleader and outstanding saxophonist Nicole Glover exclusively to Bern for one week for the first time. \nHe has performed with many of the leading artists of our time including: Wynton Marsalis\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Ron Carter\, Phil Woods\, Gerry Mulligan and Tony Bennett. The album\, “Tony Bennett and Bill Charlap: The Silver Lining\, The Songs of Jerome Kern” (RPM) won a 2016 Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. \nCurrently\, Nicole is a member of Ursa Major\, led by bassist Christian McBride\, and she performs often with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. DESCRIPTION:Featuring voclaist/actress Abena Koomson~Davis\, who has starred in the Broadway production of Fela!\, and for over 15 years\, Abena has been the lead vocalist of the funk rock band Van Davis. She is the musical director for the Resistance Revival Chorus\, and her song “Joy in Resistance” is featured on their debut album\, entitled “This Joy.” \nAbena’s debut jazz album on WJ3 Records\, entitled “Where is Love” features time-honored standards and original compositions co-written with her husband\, acclaimed jazz trombonist Steve Davis. \nThe late trumpet giant Freddie Hubbard called Steve Davis\, “one of the great trombone players in the world\,” and whether on record or on stage\, “Stevie D” and his group always produce compelling\, enjoyable music. \nSteve’s vocalist wife Abena is featured on this gig as she is on his newest all-star album\, We See\, his 21st as a leader. Sandoval has been awarded 10 Grammy Awards\, and been nominated 19 times. He has received six Billboard Music Awards and an Emmy Award\, the latter for his composing work on the score of the HBO movie based on his life\, For Love or Country\, which starred Andy Garcia. In 2013\, Sandoval was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. \nSandoval was a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning group Irakere\, whose explosive mixture of jazz\, classical\, rock and traditional Cuban music caused a sensation throughout the world.
