Three Wishes

When Nica broached the subject of three wishes with Mose Allison he had but one reply:

1. “If that ever happened to me, the first would be that every individual would contain his own destructiveness. And if this wish was granted, I wouldn’t need the others.”

Three Wishes

While hanging out at the Cathouse one evening Pannonica inquired of Rudy Powell as to his three wishes if they could come true and he told her:

1. “I’d like to be equipped to further jazz.”
2. “Through that I’d be able to promote a spotlight for musicians who’ve never had a chance and deserve some.”
3. “I would try to effectuate a way to alleviate the cliques that have been developing through the years, and which have hindered some fine players from exploring their talents.”

Three Wishes

When the Baroness asked Pee Wee Russell if he had the opportunity to get three wishes granted what would they be he responded with:  

1. “To make Monk happy on the stage at Newport.”
2. “I’d like to become a better musician ~ providing I’m one now.”
3. “To make enough to give my wife everything she desires.”

Three Wishes

Nica questioned Yasuhivo Koyama about his three wishes if by some miracle he was to be granted them and he told her he would wish for:  

1. “To realize my special ideas. Especially concerned to express my original ideas and my own theory.”
2. “To use the improvisation in proper order.”
3. “To pray, so to work in best places.”

Three Wishes

Sun Ra had three wishes for the Baroness when she inquired what his would be:  

1. “A flexible instrument which could reflect every mood of any being, even a cat’s or a bird’s.”
2. “A center where I would be free to present what I am actually doing to the world in the proper manner. Lights, shadows, colors, music would all be working at the same time, and it would be a synopsis of cosmic things so concentrated that, in an hour, you could be enlightened about the entire universe.”
3. “The means to do things precisely, directly, and unhampered.”
