VANESSA RUBIN

Vanessa Rubin is a revered jazz vocalist and storyteller celebrated for her crystalline clarity, soulful warmth, and bold improvisational style. Born in Cleveland to Trinidadian and Louisiana parents, her sound bridges Caribbean rhythm, classic jazz elegance, and Motown soul. Since launching her career in 1980 in Cleveland’s legendary clubs, Rubin has built an international performance and education legacy.

Signed to Novus/RCA in 1992, she released five albums, including chart-topping Soul Eyes (1992) and Pastiche (1993). Her acclaimed one-woman musical, Yesterdays: An Evening with Billie Holiday, earned a 2011 Kevin Klein Award nomination. Rubin continues touring globally, producing, teaching, and championing lyrical storytelling in jazz.

Trumpeter Terence Harper brings together The Harper Family, Jazzmeia Horn, Kenny Banks Jr., and an all-star ensemble for a powerful, one-night-only tribute to two beloved figures in the jazz world; his brother, bassist Dishan Harper, and legendary curator Sam Yi, founder of Churchill Grounds. Featuring artists from Atlanta and New York City, many of whom performed with Dishan or at Sam Yi’s iconic venues including TEN ATL, this heartfelt evening honors their lasting impact through music, memory, and community.

The iconic Grammy-winning drummer, who is among jazz music’s most prolific and celebrated artists, producers, composers and sidemen — will be fêted at a one-night-only celebration filled with music and memories at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall.

Presented by Tzedakah 4 All, the event will feature performances in multiple combinations – Return to Forever w/ Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola and orchestra conducted by Maestro Steve Mecurio, Miles Davis Bitches Brew, Red Clay, Echoes of an Era, as well as exploring material from his illustrious five + decade career. SUBA TRIO

Global Rhythms: Omar Sosa & Seckou Keita SUBA Trio

The Atlantic Ocean separates Cuba and Senegal, the respective birthplaces of piano virtuoso Omar Sosa and kora master Seckou Keita, a distance diminished by their shared ancestral connection to Africa.

Recorded during lockdown and released in October 2021, Sosa and Keita’s second album SUBA is a hymn to hope, to a new dawn of compassion and real change in a post-pandemic world, a visceral reiteration of humanity’s perennial prayer for peace and unity. Joining Omar and Seckou in the studio and for live performances is the inimitable Venezuelan artist Gustavo Ovalles.

ALLAN HARRIS

Aptly described by the Miami Herald as an artist blessed with “the warmth of Tony Bennett, the bite and rhythmic sense of Sinatra, and the sly elegance of Nat ‘King’ Cole,” Allan Harris is a Brooklyn-born, Harlem-based vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and band leader. With an impressive discography boasting fourteen recordings as a leader, Harris has established himself as one of the jazz world’s most acclaimed vocalists, possessing a potent combination of dynamic vocal abilities, impeccable phrasing, and powerful emotional resonance.

Harris has garnered a loyal following of ardent fans who are captivated not only by his remarkable talents but also by his unassuming personality and inquisitive, creative mind. Recognized for his outstanding contributions to jazz, he is a three-time winner of the New York Nightlife Award for “Outstanding Jazz Vocalist,” a DownBeat “Rising Star Jazz Vocalist,” and a winner of the prestigious 2022 “Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition.” He has also been honored twice as the “Best Male Jazz Vocalist” by Hot House Jazz Magazine, received a Back Stage award for “Ongoing Achievement in Jazz,” and was recognized with France’s Palmares Award for the 3rd Best Jazz Vocal Album. In addition, he has received notable grants, including the Chamber Music America Residency Grant, the “Pathways to Jazz” grant, and the South Arts “Jazz Roads Tour” grant.
