The Jazz Voyager

The Jazz Voyager is back in the Big Apple and on his way to the Jazz Standard at 116 E 27th St, New York, NY 10016. This visit to lower Manhattan will be to catch a performance with the Ravi Coltrane Trio with bassist Dezron Douglas and drummer Allan Mednard. His special guests during this engagement are tenor saxophonist Tomoki Sanders – son of Pharoah Sanders, harpist Brandee Younger and trumpeter Ralph Alessi.

This upscale and relaxing jazz club hosts performances by some of the biggest names in the jazz world, however, the typical cover charge is pricey but reasonable by Manhattan standards. With an excellent sound system, the intimate seating holds for a total of 130 people.

The 9:30 set ticket is $30.00, the menu has a variety of enticements all the way through desert and the anticipation of witnessing these performers on stage is exhilarating. The Jazz Standard is open from 11:30 am to 1:00 am on Friday and Saturday and can be reached at jazzstandard.com or at 212-576-2232. #wannabewhereyouare

The Jazz Voyager

The Jazz Voyager was in the mile high city of Denver, Colorado last night to partake of the cuisine and music at Dazzle. Located at 1512 Curtis Street 80202, the club resides between 15th and 16th Streets Mall, in Lower Downtown, or LoDo as the natives say. Parking is available on the street, lots and garages but opted for the recommended use of a car service.

Admission ranged from free to $40.00 depending on the artist and reservations are made when you purchase your ticket, however, seating is on a first come basis. So I purchased my ticket online, reserved my seat at dazzledenver.com and enjoyed a performance of The Bad Plus. For those voyagers heading to Denver and planning a visit to Dazzle, there is no physical box office so if you want to guarantee yourself a seat, do not chance not getting in at the door.

Dining was separate from the cost of admission and Dazzle has an $8 minimum for ages 8 to 17 and a $15.00 minimum for ages above. They offer an online list of FAQs that will satisfy most patrons but if you require any other information you can call the business office at 303-839-5100.   #wannabewhereyouare

The Jazz Voyager

The Blue Whale is a live jazz club, art gallery and bar located in the heart of Little Tokyo neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Since opening in 2009 the club has provided the highest level of live music in an innovative, intimate space with a sophisticated design. It is the brainchild of jazz vocalist John Lee and became the go to venue for the best creative musicians both young and established to showcase their latest projects.

The unconventional free seating arrangement and the ceiling tilting boxes in the stage area make for acoustical praise by fans and musicians. The club offers small menu of farmers market driven, made from scratch dishes as well as a full list of drinks. #wannabewhereyouare

The Jazz Voyager

On the way back to South America  now that I have my all night street cred established again after hanging out at Carnival, for a visit to the outside jazz party at Nova Lapa Jazz at R. Luis de Camoes, 30 – Centro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is in order.

It is here patrons listen into the wee hours to the jazz band bringing local and international tunes to life between the arches. Musicians will spontaneously show up to play, as they always do in Brazil. There’s nothing like sitting at a cafe and seeing musicians come in to jam with the band. Local vendors sell drinks – from beer to caipirinhas – all in plastic cups. It’s a casual, friendly vibe this Jazz Voyager will enjoy. Tomorrow, it’s Carnival!!! #wannabewhereyouare
