Three Wishes
Memorandum from the desk of Nica de Koenigswarter:
I put the first question to Thelonious Monk…
“If you were given three wishes, to be instantly granted, what would they be?”
He was pacing back and forth, and he paused for a moment to gaze out across the river at the New York skyline. Then he gave me his answer.
- “To be a successful musician.”
- “To have a happy family.”
- To have a crazy friend like you.”
And I said, “But Thelonious! You have those already!”
He just smiled and began pacing again.

Requisites
Les McCann Ltd. in San Francisco is a live album recorded in 1960 by the pianist and released on the Pacific Jazz label. He is joined by bassist Herbie Lewis and drummer Ron Jefferson.
On this project McCann contributed four original compositions and completed the seven track album with three classic tunes. The tracks offered are: Oh, Them Golden Gaters, Red Sails in the Sunset by Hugh Williams and Jimmy Kennedy, Big Jim, I Am in Love by Cole Porter, Jeepers Creepers by Harry Warren and Johnny Mercer, Gone On and Get That Church and We’ll See Yaw’ll After While, Ya Heah. #forthecollectorinyou

The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager has embarked passage to the Mediterranean coast of Israel to check out the jazz scene at Beit HaAmudim, which has been instrumental in helping keep jazz in full bloom for quite some time now. Located in an old house decorated with columns and painted floors, it is situated right next to the Carmel Market, this club is the meeting point of the city’s jazz aficionados.
Musicians hang out here, people come for the music and it is a quiet place to listen. My kind of place. because it is really quiet as the bassist plays acoustically without an amp. Requisites
Lambert, Hendricks & Ross were a vocalese trio formed by jazz vocalists Dave Lambert, Jon Hendricks and Annie Ross. This was their fourth album of the six they would record before Annie Ross left the group.
The Hottest New Group In Jazz is a 1960 album for the CBS record label and consists of ten compositions recorded: Charleston Alley, Moanin’, Twisted, Bijou, Cloudburst, Centerpiece, Give Me That Wine, Sermonette, Summertime and Everybody’s Boppin’.

The Jazz Voyager
Istanbul, Turkey is my next destination for this Jazz Voyager to see what the happening at Nublu, often described as an Eastern New York melting pot of bursting creativity. Located under the Gradiva Hotel at Sıraselviler Cad. No:55, 34134, just 200 meters from the Galata Bridge, it’s only natural that it shares a jazz club with New York City.
The original club was established by the ingenious Swedish-Turkish sax player Ilhan Ersahin, it opened in New York’s Lower East Side in 2002, when the area was healing from the September 11 attacks. Soon, the place became a hub for innovative musicians, creating a sound of its own: an urban blend of of Afro-Caribbean-electro-dance-jazz-funk with a Brazilian tinge. Ten years later in 2012, the Nublu sound traveled to Istanbul. Today, the club has a third location in Sao Paulo, Brazil. #wannabewhereyouare
