From Dallas to the 71901 zip code in Hot Springs, Arkansas is the next journey for the Jazz Voyager to catch a Thursday night session at the Ohio Club with the Clyde Pound Trio. Located at 336 Central Avenue. Known for it 147 degrees Fahrenheit, Hot Springs and the Ohio Club quickly became a destination for a soak in the natural waters that swelled up from the ground.
Established in 1905, the Ohio Club is the oldest bar in Arkansas and with a gambling casino it was a stop off place for celebrities of all walks of life. The club was regularly visited by the likes of Al Capone, Bugsy Siegel, Bugs Moran, Lucky Luciano, Babe Ruth, Al Jolson and Mae West, to name a few. In addition, an entire host of Blues and Jazz performers played though the 60’s.
They serve a cuisine from lite to hearty appetizers, salads, burgers and sandwiches ranging from around $6.00 – $13.00 as well as a full bar to select from. So while there this Jazz Voyager will be delving into some of the delicacies and staying over to take a dip in the springs.
Hours of operation are 11:00 am to midnight Sunday – Thursday, 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Must be 21 or older to gain entrance and service. As always, more information can be received by calling 501-627-0702.

The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is off to the South Florida pan handle to Miami for a seat in the cellar of Le Chat Noir for a little bit of jazz. This namesake jazz club was originally opened in the Montmartre district of Paris in 1881 by impresario Rodolphe Salis but closed six years later. More than a century later one of his descendants decided to resurrect the iconic establishment and located it in the downtown financial district at 2 South Miami Avenue, Miami, Florida 33130. He did this with a desire to bring the best of the arts and music to the city.
A former 1940’s bomb shelter, the grotto-like space downstairs with a private club library atmosphere serves a variety of paninis for your munchable delight, they offer a full selection of wine and liquor with your jazz experience. It might get a bit noisy with patron conversation but it is always a surprise as to who will perform, albeit world-class. The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is already in the Lone Star State and has visited the jazz spot The Balcony Club to hear Magga 4tet yesterday evening and will be staying through the weekend and checking out The Jonathan Fisher Quartet with special guest Shelley Carrol on Sunday.
The club is located upstairs at 1825 Abrams Road, Suite B, Dallas, Texas 75214 was opened 29 years ago by Burke and Jo Barr. It is a cozy little 1,400 square foot night club that serves up jazz, blues and more so pick your day to get the music you want to hear. Doors open on M-F 5pm – 2am and Sat/Sun 2pm-2am. Most nights there is no cover but as with most venues, I recommend you call ahead.

The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is off across the continent to 847 N Howard Street in Baltimore, Maryland 21201 to visit the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center. This venue celebrates one of Baltimore’s most famous sons and brings artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds together as it supports, develops, promotes and advocates for cultural and educational programming in the visual and performing arts.
The museum’s original site was was in a beautiful white townhouse at 409 Charles Street until a 1993 fire brought its devastating demise. After several moves it finally landed in its current location, a four story renovated building with exhibits featuring Blake, Billie Holiday, Chick Webb, Cab Calloway and Avon Long. There is also a gallery for emerging Baltimore artists, meeting rooms, a lounge, gift shop and performance space.
This weekend the Jazz Voyager will be experiencing not only the Center’s cultural offerings but also food and drinks. A blend of Jazz, Soul and R&B centered around exploring the highs and lows of the tough subject of mental health through music is also on the musical menu. Tickets are $20.00 per person or $120 for a table for eight, plus fees.
Closed Sunday through Tuesday, the center’s hours of operation are from 1:00pm – 6:00pm Wednesday thru Friday and 11:00am -3:00pm on Saturday. As always for more information, the number is 410-225-3130.

The Jazz Voyager
Indianapolis meets NOLA is the latest destination for the Jazz Voyager’s next journey to the Jazz Cooker. Located in the Broad Ripple section of the city at 925 E. Westfield Boulevard, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220, this Southern style restaurant has as much seating outside as they do inside.
With a decor totally New Orleans with lots of posters and instruments hanging on and from the walls. They have presented traditional Dick Lawson Trio for well over a decade as well as blues act and ragtime piano players hit the stage from time to time.
No cover charge, music Wednesday thru Sunday with a Sunday brunch and the cuisine is Creole and Cajun. If you’re planning to visit the indy 500 city look for $ for an evening of spending. For more information call 317-253-2883.
