The Jazz Voyager

The Jazz Voyager is off to the Motherland of Africa, specifically South Africa to 81 De Korte St, Braamfontein 53-Ir, Johannesburg, 2001 wherein resides a jazz club called The Orbit. The clubs concept finds its roots and spirit in a small Jazz Social Club established in the Troyeville section of the city in the early 2000’s by Aymeric Péguillan and 3 other partners. Peg’s Cosy Corner, as the venue was called, presented an intimate environment where musicians and jazz aficionados would hang around to drink and  listen to occasional live music and recordings till late at night.

Twelve years later, the venue is reborn in Braamfontein, a booming and dynamic part of town, where Péguillan and his two partners, Dan Sermand & Kevin Naidoo, as the best possible creative expression platform for jazz musicians. After months of intense brainstorming, consultations with musicians and negotiations with stakeholders around the nature of the new venture, The Orbit, a live music venue and bistro opened.

This visit the club will present Mandisi Dyantyis with a cover charge of R140 or $10.00 US. Opening at 11:30am and closing at 2:00am, closed on Sunday and Monday, reservations can be made at theorbit.co.za or at +27 11 339 6645.

The Jazz Voyager

With Spain passionate about all music, it is no surprise that jazz is just as prolific as their native guitar and castanets. Thus the next destination for the Jazz Voyager is Madrid and a jazz club called Cafe Central. Presenting jazz and blues since 1982, the club resides in a 19th-century building that previously housed a beautiful shop. The club’s high ceiling and elegant Iberian decor is located at Plaza del Angel 10, putting the venue at the heart of the city, amid pedestrianized streets, bars, restaurants and shops.

The musical focus is mainstream and gypsy jazz, and this visit will reveal the talents of the Kike Perdomo Quartet. Open from 11:30am to 2:30am cover charge for shows range about €13, with beer and burger €4 – €10.20. Reservations are advisable from Thursday-Saturday, at +34 91 369 4143 for an enjoyable evening. #wannabewhereyouare #jazz #voyager #travel #club #adventure

The Jazz Voyager

The rather staid streets of Cologne Germany’s Ehrenfeld district is the next destination for the Jazz Voyager to check out the happenings at The Loft. Celebrating 29 years this club has become trendier over the years and is flourishing, with an adventurous program of local and international players.

Opened by owner Hans Martin-Müller, a classical flautist with a long history of orchestral playing, it was his love of jazz and the camaraderie of musicians that courses through this intimate space at the top of a nondescript residential block.

Located at Wissmannstr 30, this lounge-in-an-attic is a place where audience and musicians readily mix and might even buy each other drinks. The jazz is modern, often purely improvisational, attracting a young, open-minded crowd.

Admission is €9 for adults and for students €6 and more information can be found by calling +49 221 952 1555. #wannabewhereyouare #jazz #voyager #travel #club #adventure
