The Jazz Voyager

With reservations made at 313-882-5299, this Jazz Voyager is all set to head out to Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan for some dinner and jazz Tuesday night with the Charles Boles Quartet at the The Dirty Dog Jazz Café located at 97 Kercheval Avenue, 48236, just thirteen miles from Detroit.

Seating just 65 diners and jazz enthusiasts each night, one is afforded the opportunity to enjoy legends, icons, and greenhorns of the jazz world.  The café is modeled after an English pub, so there are lots of dark wood leather seats and lots of deep reds.  The cuisine is upscale and eclectic and the music is live in this intimate space. Be warned music is played through dinner from 6:00pm – 9:00pm, so there just may be some chatter, hopefully not too loud. #jazzvoyager#wannabewhereyouare

The Jazz Voyager

Deplaning on the other side of the big pond, this Jazz Voyager is filled with the anticipation of sitting in a jazz club aptly named The Crypt, situated under a church. Located at 1 Wale St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, 8000, South Africa, it has been a labor of love for its creators, among them the dean of St. George’s Cathedral, a jazz enthusiast whose vision for the cathedral as the people’s church led him to reach out to the broader community through the universal language of jazz.

In celebration of International Jazz Day tomorrow I will be privy to a Tribute to Louis Armstrong with his music performed by trumpeter Eddie Backhouse, vocalists Charlette Dickson and Graham Burton, bassist Wesley Rustin, drummer Jack Momple, Willy Haubrich on trombone & trumpet, Willie Van Zylon saxophones and pianist Derk Blaisse.

At the present time patrons must bring their own alcoholic beverages while the restaurant is re-applying its liquor license, which requires a period of prohibition for the sale of liquor. A per bottle service fee will be charged as follows: Wine/R50 ($3.74), Beer & Ciders/R10 ($0.75), Spirits/R150 ($11.22), Brut/R100 ($7.48). (13.37 South African Rand equals $1.00)

Closed Sunday and Monday it’s hours of operation are from 7:00pm to midnight. Cover Charge: R100 per person. For reservations: sms or whatsapp +27 79 683 4658 or email at info@thecryptjazz.co.za#jazz voyager

The Jazz Voyager

The Jazz Voyager is heading to the airport to fly into Midway Airport in the Windy City to check out Greg Osby tomorrow at the infamous nightspot called the Green Mill Jazz Club. Located at 4802 N. Broadway St., Chicago, IL 60640 it is open from 12:00pm – 4:00am nightly and 5:00am on Saturdays.

Established in 1907 as Pop Morse’s Roadhouse, a bar and beer garden catering to mourners spilling from the nearby Graceland and Saint Boniface cemeteries. In 1910, the establishment became the Green Mill Gardens under the ownership of real estate developer Tom Chamales. During the Prohibition and Jazz Age years it was patronized by Al Capone and other mobsters and well-to-doers in Chicago and the clubs pedigree had no equal, proffering the best talent in the country.

The clubs notoriety has given it appearances in films like The Joker’s Wild,  Ocean’s 12, V.I. Warshawski, The Lake House, High Fidelity, The Break-Up and Prelude to a Kiss.

All types of jazz music are featured at the Green Mill including traditional, bebop, improvisational, contemporary and avant-garde.  For more info and reservations 773-878-5552.
