Almost In Your Arms is the love song from the 1958 romantic comedy Houseboat starring Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Martha Hyer, Paul Peterson, Charles Herbert and Mimi Gibson. Jay Livingston and Ray Evans composed and wrote the music and lyrics.
The Story: Estranged husband Tom Winters returns home from Europe after his wife’s death and takes his three unwilling children to Washington DC where he works for the State Department. Unhappy, Robert runs away and is found by Cinzia Zaccardi, the daughter of a famous Italian conductor, who is also running away. Unbeknownst, Winters offers her a job as a maid and eventually she accepts. Sister-in-law offers Tom and the children her guest house which is destroyed by a train, the driver sells Winters his broken down houseboat, all move in and the fun begins. Eventually Tom and Cinzia get married and the rest is happily-ever-after.

When Did You Leave Heaven was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1936 from the movie Sing Baby Sing. Richard A. Whiting and Walter Bullock composed the music and lyrics. Alice Faye, Adolphe Menjou, Gregory Ratoff, Ted Healy, Patsy Kelly and Paul Stanton.
The Story: Singer Joan Warren is fired from her job at the Ritz Club and seeks help from theatrical agent, Nicky Alexander. Taking her to Mr. Brewster, president of the Federal Broadcasting Company, she auditions but does not get the job due to upper class snobbery. Back at the club packing her bags she is convinced to audition for drunken actor Bruce Farraday. Pictures taken, scandal ensues and a radio contract is offered to Warren if Farraday will perform with her. Tricking Brewster into believing it to be true they plan to broadcast from Kansas City but Farraday exonerates Warren and honestly secures the radio contract for her.

I’ll Never Stop Loving You, composed by Nicholas Brodzsky and Sammy Cahn wrote the lyrics for the 1955 film Love Me or Leave Me. The film is a biographical romantic musical drama that retells the life story of Ruth Etting, a singer who rose from dancer to movie star.
Doris Day stars as Etting, James Cagney as gangster Martin “Moe the Gimp” Snyder, her first husband and manager, and Cameron Mitchell as pianist/ arranger Myrl Alderman, her second husband.

Dearly Beloved and I’m Old Fashioned 1942 song written by Johnny Mercer and Jerome Kern, introduced by Fred Astaire in the 1942 musical romance comedy film You Were Never Lovelier. Set in Buenos Aires, Astaire’s co-stars are Rita Hayworth, Adolphe Menjou and Xavier Cugat. Jerome Kern composed the music with Johnny Mercer writing the lyric.
The Story: The Acunas are a rich Argentine family, with four daughters and the tradition of marrying them off in order, oldest first. When sister #1 gets married, sisters #3 and #4 pressure Maria, sister #2, to get married because they have their husbands picked out already. But Maria hasn’t yet met a man she likes and knowing this her father secretly sends his daughter flowers and anonymous love letters, creating a “mystery man” for her to fall in love with. But Robert Davis, an American dancer looking for work, stumbles into the picture. Maria falls for him, but the father does not approve.

Secret Love, a popular song written in 1953 with music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Paul Francis Webster was first performed by Doris Day in the film Calamity Jane that also starred Howard keel. It received an Academy Award for Best Original Song and Day recorded the best-selling record of the song, which reached #1 on both the Billboard and Cash Box charts in 1954.
Calamity Jane is a Wild West themed film musical released in 1953 devised by Warner Brothers in response to Annie Get Your Gun. It was loosely based on the life of the real Wild West heroine and explores an alleged romance between her and Wild Bill Hickok. The film starred Doris Day as the title character and Howard Keel as Hickok.
Secret Love won the Academy Award for Best Original and was also nominated for Scoring of a Musical Picture and Best Sound Recording.
