“Out Late” Record Release Celebration

Eric Scott Reed celebrates the release of his brilliant new album, Out Late, joined by an extraordinary quintet featuring trumpeter Nicholas Payton, saxophonist Eric Alexander, bassist Dezron Douglas, and drummer Willie Jones III. Downbeat praises Reed as “one of those tremendously gifted players, while All About Jazz notes that he has “fully established himself at the forefront of jazz pianists.” A child prodigy who honed his craft in his father’s storefront Baptist Church, Reed has been a key figure in jazz for over three decades. Ahmad Jamal cited Redd as “one of my very favorite pianists.” In addition to his virtuosic playing, he is a gifted composer and Out Late, and these performances will feature his latest original works.

Pianist Emmet Cohen leads his critically acclaimed, fan-favorite trio. Praised by All About Jazz as “one of the finest piano players to emerge in decades,” Cohen has built a dedicated following and introduced new audiences to jazz. One of the genre’s brightest stars, Cohen seamlessly blends stride, swing, bebop, free jazz, and contemporary styles, with a particular focus on the Great American Songbook. EBONI FONDREN QUARTET

Eboni Fondren comes to Sunside as an American jazz singer from Kansas City. She is the lead singer of the famous Kansas City Big Band. Often compared to Nancy Wilson, she was called upon to represent American vocal jazz at the last G20 summit in India. She possesses a unique sensual voice tinged with gospel and R&B and an innate sense of swing. Eboni has performed at numerous international jazz festivals. Attached to France, she formed a band in France with her Parisian jazz friends, pianist and organist Laurent Marode and drummer Stéphane Chandelier.

Longtime New Orleans jazz vocalist, visual artist and educator Betty Shirley has come full circle in her life and is now reaping the benefits of her hard-earned endeavors. The Times-Picayune declares Shirley’s a voice that should be heard round the world.

Shirley’s latest is “The Betty Shirley Band – Live at 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.” Join in as we celebrate her renowned  artistry and legacy of captivating audiences across the Crescent City and beyond. Over her illustrious career, Betty has collaborated with Ellis Marsalis, Alvin Batiste, and James Rivers.
