PATRICIA BARBER

Songwriter, composer, singer, and pianist, was born in Chicago and her father Floyd was a jazz saxophonist who played with Bud Freeman and Glenn Miller. She played saxophone and piano from a young age, sang in musicals in high school, and studied piano at the University of Iowa in the early 1970s. From there Barber went to Chicago and began performing regularly in bars and clubs. She won a Guggenheim Fellowship in music composition in 2003, an unusual accomplishment for someone working in the field of popular songwriting.

DENISE THIMES

The Best of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone

Over the course of a multi-faceted career spanning just a little under 3 decades, Thimes is no stranger to the music world, growing up in a home surrounded by all types of music from her father & radio icon, the late Lou “Fatha” Thimes. She has performed with such jazz notables as Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in St. Louis, MO; the late Clark Terry at the Blue Note-NY; Dr. Billy Taylor, Earl May, Benny Powell, in Flushing Town Hall; and James Moody again at the Blue Note-NY. She has also graced the stage with the likes of Houston Person, Jimmy&Tootie Heath, Bobby McFerrin, and Bucky Pizzarelli.

In recent years she has appeared and toured Paris with David Sanborn, sung for the Queen of Thailand, Queen Elizabeth II, President George W Bush, and was hand picked by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin to perform for her 72nd birthday celebration.

EUGENIE JONES

Eugenie Jones is an award-winning American Jazz singer/songwriter, producer, and legacy activist. Born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia, Jones grew up with four sisters and three brothers. Her father, Eugene, was the choir director at the family’s church, and her mother, Tommie Lee, was the choir’s lead soprano. Jones grew up listening to her mother’s voice, perpetually singing around the house and at local community events. However, in these early years, Jones possessed no latent desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She grew up, earned her MBA, and eventually made her home in Seattle, entering the business world as a nonprofit marketing communications expert working in housing for the homeless advocacy.

Her singing career began late in life after the death of her mother in 2008. “Beyond my grief, I felt a void that I later recognized as missing the sound of my mother singing. Seeking solace and a positive way forward, I wondered if I could carry on that part of her.” That speculation led Jones to the Seattle jazz scene and ultimately to pursue something she had never imagined – a career in music. On her independent label, Open Mic Records, Jones has successfully produced three award-winning recording projects comprised primarily of her original material. She has recorded more than 30 original songs and is characterized as a “cleverly gifted lyricist.” Her projects have resulted in her winning the Pacific NW Earshot Jazz Vocalist of the Year and Recording of the Year Golden Ear awards.

CHARITO & DA HOUSE TRIO

Charito is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful voices of jazz in Japan. Since her first visit to France in 2007, her international stature has only grown and she regularly returns to present her projects, the latest of which is a fabulous CD entitled “American Gold Standards” in which she revisits a repertoire of great classics by Cole Porter, Richard Rogers and Gerschwin.

Gifted with an exceptional voice and swing, she is remarkable in ballads, fast tempos and improvisations. She is part of the most perfect tradition of vocal jazz while retaining the charisma of her personality.
