The Jazz Voyager

The Windy City is The Jazz Voyager’s next port of call, heading to the Jazz Showcase, founded by NEA Jazz Master Joe Segal in 1947. Located in Dearborn Station at 806 Plymouth Court in Chicago, Illinois 60605.

This venerable bastion of jazz is the oldest historic jazz club in the city, now operated by Segal’s son Wayne, serving as a launch pad for many a career as well as presenting the best national and local jazz talent live every night.

Catching the performance this weekend, the Jazz Voyager will be privy to the guitar artistry of the Pat Martino Trio with Pat Bianchi and Carmen Intorre with two shows at 8:00 and 10:00pm. Requisites

Whims of Chambers is an album released by bassist Paul Chambers released on the Blue Note label in 1956. The album features performance personnel by Chambers with trumpeter Donald Byrd, tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Horace Silver and drummer Philly Joe Jones.

The album consisted of seven compositions with three by the leader and two by Byrd and two by Coltrane. Omicron by Byrd, Whims of Chambers, Nita by Coltrane, We Six by Byrd, Dear Ann, Tale of the Fingers and Just for the Love by Coltrane.

The album was produced by Alfred Lion, recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder, cover photo by Frank Wolff and cover design Reid Miles.

The Jazz Voyager

The Jazz Voyager is heading down to Louisiana to visit what has been hailed as one of the best live jazz clubs in New Orleans at 300 Bourbon Street, 70130. Situated on the lobby level just off the main entrance of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, The Jazz Playhouse showcases the city’s greatest jazz talent for the adult crowd. This luxurious, smoke-free venue opens the bar daily at 4PM. Reservations are not required and there is no cover, however, they do require a one drink minimum per person, per set.

This intimate twenty seat venue offers a limited number of $20.00 preferred seating option that allows guest to arrive at their leisure up until 30 minutes past the start of the show but does not guarantee front row seating.
