SEAN JONES’ DIZZY SPELLZ

Trumpeter Sean Jones’ Dizzy Spellz has wowed New York audiences for years with its interpretation of the late, great jazz master Dizzy Gillespie. Armed with a turntablist and the tap dancing Appalachian style of Brinae Ali, Jones and Dizzy Spellz put a new spin on Diz, from his bebop beginnings to his later Afro-Cuban tunes. The band will serve as an amazing kick off to the 2023 Purdue Jazz Festival.

Whether you’ve heard guitarist Dave Stryker leading his own group (with 34 CD’s as a leader to date),  or as a featured sideman with Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and many others, you know why the Village Voice calls him “one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years.”

Hot House magazine awarded him Best Guitarist Fans Decision for 2017.  He was recently voted once again as one of the top Jazz Guitarists in the 2022 Downbeat Critics and Readers Polls for the 15th time.

Dave’s last 5 CD’s have all gone to #1 on the JazzWeek Radio chart. His most recent “As We Are” features John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Julian Shore and a string quartet led by violinist Sara Caswell. Critics are calling it one of Dave’s greatest works yet. “Eight Track III” stayed at #1 on JazzWeek Radio chart for 6 straight weeks.  “Messin’ with Mister T”, is a celebration of the man he worked with for over a decade — Stanley Turrentine, “Mister T” — with ten of the greatest tenor sax players on the scene today. It went to #1 on JazzWeek Radio and stayed in the Top 50 for 20 weeks and has received great reviews including 4 1/2 stars in Downbeat magazine.

SHAWNN MONTEIRO

Shawnn Monteiro-vocals, Tim Ray-piano, Dave Zinno-bass and Yoron Israel-drums

“Her voice finds the loveliness between the notes, the subtleties of a lyric, the sincerity and passion of a song or a couplet or a simple line that comes straight from the soul, with a warm embrace.” – allaboutjazz.com

Ms. Monteiro has delighted audiences from the USA to Europe with her highly popular jazz repertoire laced with blues-oriented improvisations and the American Songbook.  The true quality of Shawnn’s voice is best experienced in the ultimate setting of the club dates where her warm charisma can be personally felt by those fortunate enough to spend an evening with her,

Percussion great and latin/jazz impressario Mongo Santamaria discovered Shawnn working in a club in San Jose, California and signed her on the spot to tour with his band. Shawnn electrified audiences as his only vocalist and female percussionist during that two-year circuit where she shared the stage with such greats as Stan Kenton, Celia Cruz, the Fania All-Stars, and Weather Report.

Since then, Shawnn has shared the stage with a prestigious list of notables jazz names:  Clark Terry, Red Holloway, Ray Brown, Lionel Hampton, Frank Foster and the Basie Band, Nat Adderly, Kenny Barron, Hank Jones, Bobby Durham, James Williams, Jimmy Cobb, Keter Betts, Stanley Jordan, Ed Thigpen, Johnny Griffin, and Benny Golson….to name a few.
