The Jazz Voyager
Once again the Jazz Voyager is hitting the road to the airport for a flight north from Africa to Europe to visit an intimate little jazz spot and restaurant named Duc Lombard. I am told this long-running jazz club hosts a variety of artists in a cozy setting filled with music, drinks and nibbles.
Situated in a prime central location close to Notre Dame at 42 Rue des Lombards, 75001 Paris, France, this night spot opens at 7:00pm and closes at 11:30pm Monday through Thursday and 3:30am on Friday and Saturday. If you are looking for music on Sunday you must venture elsewhere as their doors are closed.
This week I’ll be catching Vincent Payen leading his sextet Leeway with vocalist Pauleen Renard this weekend for a the late set ranging from hard bop to soul and modern jazz. The hit for admission is $35 euros with doors at 7:00 and 9:30pm for sets at 7:30 and 9:45pm, respectively. Tickets and reservations can be made at +33 1 42 33 22 88. Fellow voyagers be prepared to spend $$.

The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is flying down to the southwest corner of South Africa to Cape Town for a few days to investigate the goings on a little known jazz spot called Asoka. Located at 8 Kloof Street, Gardens, it should prove to be good times as I will be mingling with fellow explorers and locals on this new adventure.
The restaurant and lounge serves up two days of jazz on Sunday from 8:00pm – 10:00pm with vocals every third week. On Tuesday live jazz starts at 8:30pm followed by deep house at 10:00pm.
The menu sports selections of fish, duck, beef, chicken and ostrich along with an assortment of vegetables and salads. I think I will dine on a few select delectables and the music will be a discovered surprise without advance notice. All part of the adventure of a jazz voyager.

The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is in the air heading to the city by the bay to be in attendance for tonight’s SFJazz Gala honoring Chucho Valdés . The destination is the SFJAZZ Center located at 201 Franklin Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.
Not to diminish the tribute’s stellar glory but the after party is equally impressive with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Corinne Bailey Rae and Jesús Diaz y su QBA. my evening begins with VIP reception and dinner at 5:30pm followed by the Luminary Party and Gala Reception at 7:00pm, then the gala concert at 8:30pm.
Unfortunately, for you Johnny-Come-Lately’s the gala is sold out, however, the after party is still open for $145 for members and $170 to the public. You will be privy to raucous performances and dancing, premium open bar and plentiful late night fare from favorite neighborhood spots. Looking forward to a great night of music. The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is lifting off across the Atlantic to his next South America destination, the Virasoro Bar located at Guatemala 4328, in the Palermo section of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Reasonably priced, this intimate yet comfortable venue has consistently booked great jazz bands.
Early arrivals can get a stool at the bar but otherwise a reservation is highly recommended and can be made at +54 11 4831-8918. Cover charge is usually around ARS 300/ $8 US and set run about one hour. Food and drink are available and reasonably priced, however, I am told the service is slow. But hey, you’re on vacation and rushing is not something you should be doing. You’re in the BA, so kick back and enjoy the atmosphere and love the one you’re with.
At around 9:30 p.m. during this outing I will be catching a set or two with the Eloy Michelini Trio for ARS 250 and for an additional ARS 150 will stay for a set that will take me into the next day.
