EUGENIE JONES

Through inspiration and​ an inexhaustible work ethic Eugenie Jones
has transformed herself into a jazz vocalist of impeccable quality, with a respect  for the jazz tradition  and the courage to try something she had never imagined – a singing career​​​​​​​​​​​​. ​​
Eugenie Jones was not supposed to be a jazz singer. She graduated with an MBA in marketing, and her post-graduate career took her deep within the nonprofit sector as a marketing  communications executive. Her mother, a soprano gospel singer, was the singer of the family, and w hen cancer claimed her life, Jones managed her grief by setting out to see if she could carry forward that part of her Mom’s life.
 
Ten years later, the now acclaimed jazz vocalist and songwriter with a heartwarming backstory celebrates her first decade in the jazz spotlight with The Originals, a greatest hits collection of songs from her prior albums, all from her own pen and all released on her own music label, Open Mic Records.

KATE MCGARRY QUARTET

A jazz vocalist who has brought authenticity and vitality to every song regardless of genre. As an educator she has taught at the Manhattan School of Music and the California Jazz Conservancy.

The Jazz Voyager

Hanging out in the Big Apple is one of my favorite summertime things to do because it’s one of the best places to walk. The sights and sounds are amazing from the Vilage to Park Avenue, Rockefeller Plaza to Central Park Carousel and Zoo. Uptown to Harlem is the last destination, a quick fashion update, a good meal and then to where this jazz voyager will be in the Minton’s Playhouse audience this evening.

Established in 1938 by saxophonist Henry Minton, the venue stands as a pivotal shrine in the history of jazz, renowned as the birthplace of Bebop. Over the ensuing decades, it served as the epicenter for a revolutionary shift in jazz, laying the foundations for modern jazz.

Vocalist Vanisha Gould is being hosted at this venerable establishment for one night only. Anticipation is what this voyager is eagerly awaiting in hopes that she will be grooving to the sounds of the next generation of jazz musicians, as well as transporting us back to the golden age of jazz.
