The Jazz Voyager
The Poconos is the next stop for the Jazz Voyager to historic Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania 18327 where the Deer Head Inn has become the oldest continuously running jazz club in the country. For those who love nature, jazz and tasteful decor, the inn is at 5 Main Street. When not listening to jazz or dining, one can walk the Appalachian Trail in the Delaware Water Gap National Park.
If your night of jazz goes too long you can always partake of one of eight rooms or suites for a restful evening. Breakfast is served on weekends to the delight of patrons with a twist on old favorites with locally grown produce when available.
This jazz voyager will be in the house tonight for the free jazz jam that happens every Thursday and have made my jazz and hotel reservation on Saturday with vocalist Carrie Jackson & Jazzin’ All Stars, pianist Dave Braham, bassist Takashi Otsuka and drummer Rudy Petschauer. The cover charge for music is $15.00 before 9:30 pm and $8.00 after. Reservations can be made by calling 570-424-2000. #wannabewhereyouare

Requisites
Blues On The Other Side is a 1962 album recorded by vibraphonist Mike Mainieri on the Argo label at the Van Gelder studios in New Jersey. He is joined by pianist Bruce Martin, bassist Julie Ruggiero and drummer Joseph Porcero, Jr. and this early album proves to be a lively mix of piano and vibes.
Six songs make up this 32 minute and 22 second post-bop album opening with the title track Blues On The Other Side, followed by, If I Were A Bell, Tenderly, B. R. Blues, When I Fall In Love and closing with Waltzin’ In and Out.
Walter Gross, Albert Selden and Frank Loesser composed the songs, Hiroshi Kawasaki mastered the project and the cover photograph was taken by Roy Decarava.

The Jazz Voyager
The Jazz Voyager is jumping a train down to the City of Brotherly Love from the Big Apple to take a short residency at the hip café Chris’ Jazz Club. Nestled just around the corner from the Bellevue Hotel at 1421 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102, it is just a few blocks walk from Center City, it is a perfect stop for relaxing and enjoying live jazz six nights a week.
Winner of two “Best of Philly” awards, this is a serious jazz club that’s open from 11:00am – 2:00am and features serious talent in the place jazz musicians go to hear jazz. So this weekend I will be enthralled by Larry McKenna, John Swana & The Tim Brey Trio while possibly being served choices from the dinner menu which includes crab cakes, duck and calamari. My palate awaits what may be a delectable dining and jazz experience. Reservations may be made at (215) 568-3131. #wannabewhereyouare

J. J. Johnson had only one wish to Nica’s query and that was:
- “To be able to play exactly what I have in my mind.”
