Three Wishes

Nica asked Buddy Montgomery what his three wishes were and he simply said:  

  1. “I can use a whole lot of things! One thing I would like is to get my mind and my hands attached to what I am trying to do, musically. I need to think some more about the others.”

Three Wishes

When Monk Montgomery was asked by the Baroness if given what his three wishes would be he responded by telling her:  

  1. “My first wish would be that the older people let the younger people think for themselves.”
  2. “I wish they would give jazz an opportunity.”
  3. “I wish I could beat you just one time at Ping-Pong.”

Three Wishes

Pannonica had the opportunity to query three wishes from Joe Williams and he told her:  

  1. “I wish everyone could be happy.”
  2. “Since God’s given me the tenor, I’d like to sing the things I want to sing, with the apropos background.”
  3. “I wish that there would be as much publicity about the jazz musicians that support their families as there is about their failings. And that’s ninety-five percent of them, support their families.”

Three Wishes

Tommy Potter was pensive when of his three wishes by the Baroness but answered her questions with:  

  1. “An adequate amount of money to carry me through and take careof my family.”
  2. “A healthy situation for everyone immediately concerned with me, plus an adequate amount of knowledge.”
  3. “That I might be able to play music that is pleasing, not only to myself but to folks that will listen.”

Three Wishes

The Baroness awaited his answer after inquiring of Sam Jones what his three wishes were, he said:  

  1. “I’ve already had two wishes: to play with Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie. So all I need now is one: to be a great jazz musician.”
