TONY HIGHTOWER

Drummer for Outkast, The Goodie Mob and many others, Tony Hightower was mentored by Jazz vocalist Freddy Cole. The singer/songwriter is taking up the mantle to be a bridge that ushers R&B audiences into Jazz…real jazz. With years of experience as a musical performer and actor with familiar roots that place him firmly within the music’s firmament, the Atlanta-native  is still just getting started on this benevolent turn in his journey. And he is bringing a lot of young people with him.

The Jazz Voyager

This week the Jazz Voyager is heading out of St. Louis for the Queen City to a coffee house by day and a jazz lounge by night. It’s a place where folks gather, work, socialize and herald the musical art formgather, work, socialize and herald the musical art form. It’s called Caffè Vivace and is nestled in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio.

While savoring a glass of wine I’ll be enjoying the vocal talents of Kat Edmonson delivering a holiday menu of swinging music for her Christmas show. A sample of songs I hope to hear are not only the title track to her latest album but also Yule-tide favorites such as I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, The Christmas Blues, The Chipmunk Song and the classic The Christmas Song! With an equal foothold in jazz and cabaret, and raised on the music and film of the early-to-mid-twentieth century, she is a rare artist who embodies the spirit of the past while remaining resolutely current.

The caffè is located at 975 E. McMillan Street, 45206. Unfortunately for those of you who didn’t purchase early, the evening is sold out. But if you desire more information, you can call 513-601-9897.

KAT EDMONSON

Holiday Swingin’ ~ A Kat Edmonson Christmas
The Philadelphia Inquirer Jazz Vivace proudly presents Kat Edmonson as part of the Winter 2024 Jazz Series. Kat Edmonson is an award-winning songwriter and singer with an equal foothold in jazz, cabaret, and vintage cosmopolitanism pop (The New York Times).
Raised on the music and film of the early-to-mid-twentieth century, Kat is a rare artist who embodies the spirit of the past while remaining resolutely au courant. She performs original songs and familiar classics in her live show, interweaving humorous anecdotes, philosophical musings, and her love of film with disarming candor and vulnerability. Her longtime band members’ keen and sensitive accompaniment allows Kat to veer off-script as she’s often inclined to do freely. She has been featured on Austin City Limits, Tiny Desk Concerts, A Prairie Home Companion, and The Tonight Show.
Her modern-day variety show ran for 66 episodes. Kat Edmonson and her band have recorded a Christmas album including Yule-tide favorites such as Jingle Bell Rock, O Christmas Tree, and Let It Snow. Holiday Swingin’! A Kat Edmonson Christmas Vol. 1 (released 11/09/2021) was described by Jazziz as “impeccably hip” and included in the New York Times “13 Albums That Revisist (and Redefine!) Holiday Classics”.
A $15 drink/food minimum is charged per person in the party, per set, if the total for beverages purchased by the party does not meet the minimum.
