Blue Serge is an album by jazz baritone saxophonist Serge Chaloff, that was released by Capitol Records in 1956. It was recorded on March 14 and 16, 1956 at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, California. The session included pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Philly Joe Jones.
The album is comprised of eight tunes and among the recognizable standards are a Serge original and an Al Cohn composition. Leading off the session is A Handful Of Stars, followed by The Goof and I (Cohn), Thanks For The Memory, All The Things You Are, I’ve Got The World On A string, Susie’s Blues (Chaloff), Stairway To The Stars and How About You.
This album exhibits plenty of improvisation and melodic variations to make this an important session and has been added to the Penguin Guide and Definitive Records “Core Collection” with a four star rating.

Requisites
Lonesome Traveler is one of pianist Ray Bryant’s grittiest recordings and his second album on Cadet was recorded in 1966 on the Cadet label at RCA Studios in New York City. It featured pianist Ray Bryant as the leader of the sextet of players who performed on the recording sessions that included flugelhornists Clark Terry and Snooky Young, Jimmy Rowles and Richard Davis on bass and drummer Freddie Waits.
The cover photo and design were by Don Bronstein. Nine tracks make up the session with five on the B-side with The Blue Scimitar, Gettin’ Loose, Wild Is The Wind, Cubano Chant and Brother This ‘N’ Sister That. The title track,Lonesome Traveler, is kicking off the A-side followed by ‘Round Midnight, These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ and Willow Weep For Me.

Released in 1959, it is the 7th album for Cannonball and his second on the Mercury Records subsidiary label, Emarcy. He is joined on the recording session by his brother Nat, Junior Mance, Sam Jones and Jimmy Cobb. Excellent bebop by the altoist’s original quintet.

Once You’ve Been In Love by Marjorie Barnes was originally produced with twelve classic standards in the 1990s as a promotional piece to get gigs in Europe, it has since been made available to a wider audience. The vocalist was born and raised in New York City, has had starring roles on Broadway in Hair and Dreamgirls, sang with the Fifth Dimension for two years, and then made Europe her home – living in London, Paris, Vienna and Holland from 1978 to 2000. She moved back to the States working alongside Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Lena Horne, Billy Eckstine, Marcus Miller and Mel Lewis. In 2012 she returned to Europe making her home once again in Holland.
A rare find, temporarily unavailable on major purchase sites, however, there are a few available online from different sellers that can be snatched up.

This is My Beloved, recorded by Arthur Prysock, eight years before the author, Walter Benton, death in 1976. His recitation of the poems written in diary form are addressed to Lillian and is set to a beautifully scored background of jazz. The book was first published in 1943 and became one of the bet selling books of poetry, selling over 350,000 copies at that time. This landmark recording is a necessity for every collector who has ever wanted to understand love.
