Charlie Byrd told Pannonica his three wishes were:
- “I’d like to play scales like Sabicas.”
- “I’d like to get a tone like Segovia.”
- “And rhythmic drive like Wes Montgomery. And it’s an impossibility to have all that, but that’s what I wish.”

Pannonica inquired of Leo Wright, if given three, what would he wish for and he answered her by saying:
- “I wish that people would be more individualistic.”
- “The problem in my profession, that the supply is greater than the demand… I wish that that wasn’t so.”
- “I wish the public in general would realize the importance of jazz.”
