JIMMY OWENS

Trumpeter Jimmy Owens is also a composer, arranger, lecturer, and educator. Over the course of his on-going sixty year career he has played with  Sir Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, Billy Cobham, Benny Golson, Hubert Laws, and Tom McIntosh, Frank Wess, Seldon Powell, Barry Galbraith, Bob Cranshaw, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus, Hank Crawford, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, and Herbie Mann, among many others. Since 1969, he has led his own group, Jimmy Owens Plus.

EUGENIE JONES

Singer/Songwriter Eugenie Jones is an exceptional vocalist and cleverly gifted lyricist who has released highly-praised, primarily original, soulful American Jazz vocal projects.  She has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album  and internationally ranked #7 on Jazz Week’s Top 50 charts and #30 on Jazz Week’s 2022 Top 100 Albums. Jones is additionally an Earshot Jazz Vocalist of the Year award recipient and the first vocal recording artist to receive Earshot’s Recording of the Year Golden Ear award.
A warm, engaging entertainer, she’s described by critics as an artist who can make you feel jazz. She and her recordings have received favorable coverage in every major jazz publication, including DownBeat, JazzTimes, JazzIz, The Gazette/NY, and many others. Described as a “deft vocalist,” Jones has also proven to be a skillful songwriter, releasing 30 originals on her recordings.

EUGENIE JONES

Eugenie Jones is an American jazz vocalist, songwriter, and producer. She has collaborated with many jazz artists, including Reggie Workman, Bernard Purdie, Julian Priester, Bobby Sanabria, Lynn Seaton, Marquis Hill, Bill Anschell, and Lonnie Plaxico.

She received the Jazz Hero Award by the Jazz Journalist Association in 2023. Jones writes original straight-ahead, swing, and soul-infused jazz lyrics and melodies and is also known for divergently creative arrangements of Great American Songbook jazz standards.

Daily Dose Of Jazz…

Alfred Winters was born March 24, 1931 and raised in New York City, New York. He completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Hofstra University and began working professionly since 1957.

He studied with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra principal trombonist Roger Smith. He went on to play with Bobby Hackett, Gene Krupa, Phil Napolean, Wild Bill Davison, Benny Goodman. Recorded with numerous artists including Gene Krupa and Bobby Hackett.

Relocating in 1966 to the Detroit, Michigan area he performed and recorded with the Austin-Moro Big Band and the New Mckinney’s Cottonpickers as well as local artists like Tom Saunders.

He led his own band beginning in 1988 and performed at numerous jazz festivals including Newport Jazz Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival and the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
