Lakecia Benjamin is a 5-time Grammy-nominated saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator whose music blends jazz, funk, R&B, and hip-hop. Known for her warm tone and dynamic performances, she has collaborated with artists such as Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, Gregory Porter, and Terri Lyne Carrington.

Benjamin has released several acclaimed albums, including Pursuance: The Coltranes (2020) and Phoenix (2023), which earned three Grammy nominations. A New York City native, she studied at the New School under jazz legends like Gary Bartz and Reggie Workman, honing her craft while touring with luminaries across genres.

RYAN PETERSON TRIO

Ryan Peterson is a jazz guitarist, band leader, and educator based in Central New York. Since moving to New York in 2023, Ryan is quickly becoming an in-demand guitarist and had the pleasure of leading his quartet as the opening act on the main stage at the Northeast Jazz and. Wine Festival in Syracuse, NY in July 2023 – a festival with a history of attracting over 66,000 festival-goers to downtown Syracuse every summer. In April 2024, Ryan led his band at the. 2024 “Scott LaFaro” Geneva Jazz Festival in Geneva, NY .
As a band leader, Ryan leads the Ryan Peterson Trio in performances in Central New York, the. Finger Lakes region, and throughout the Northeast. Having been called a “wunderkind” by CNY Jazz Arts Foundation, Ryan’s bands perform decidedly modern, virtuosic, and forward-thinking. interpretations of Great American Songbook standards.
Ryan completed his Master of Music in Jazz Performance at the prestigious University of North Texas College of Music in May 2023 where he was the Graduate Teaching Fellow in the Jazz Guitar studio. CC + THE ADELITAS

CC and the Adelitas represents the intersectionality between identity, race, gender and culture. The Adelitas were the women solderaderas of the Mexican Revolution, which helped forge “Adelita” into an icon in Mexican culture, representing the strength and fortitude of women into the modern day. This project and the experience that it creates incorporates the history of the Adelitas and Mexican song writers and/or singers and sets the music in the jazz idiom.
The drummer, composer and educator Colleen Clark is vibrant on the scenes in NYC and the southeastern United States. Clark has guest performed with the 8G Band on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers and can most recently be heard playing on Michael Dease’s “The Other Shoe” (Origin) and “Found in Space” (Origin – releasing September 2024), and upcoming releases by CC + The Adelitas, The Southern Pines, and Matt White. She has shared the stage with jazz luminaries including: Branford Marsalis, Rodney Whitaker, Catherine Russell, Camille Thurman, Rudresh Mahanthappa, and Mimi Jones. Clark has been featured in Downbeat magazine and is also an ASCAP winning composer. Clark was invited by the ASCAP Foundation to lead her band at the Kennedy Center. She is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the University of South Carolina’s Jazz Girls Day®. Dr. Clark is the only woman and drummer to earn a doctoral degree in jazz from the University of North Texas. Her latest project is CC & the Adelitas, which features the merging of the golden era of Mexican music and jazz.

ARTEMIS

Fresh off their 2nd consecutive win for “Jazz Group of the Year” in the Downbeat Readers Poll, Aretemis returns with their third Blue Note album Arboresque. The album and the group features the quintet helmed by pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, tenor saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda, and drummer Allison Miller.

A paean to the sheer joy of collaboration and creativity, the album also explores a theme of natural and environmental beauty. This is the debut performance of Artemis and celebration of their album release at the legendary New York City venue.

The Jazz Voyager

Delray Beach is the next destination for this Jazz Voyager. Had a great time in Buenos Aires but we know all good things must terminate on another ten hour flight returning home. The Arts Garage is this week’s destination and is a venue that presents a wide variety of music to a multi-cultural, multi-aged, multi-faceted South Florida audience.  I’ll be arriving at Miami International, taking the tri-rail to Delray Beach and then a Lyft to the venue. The venue doubles as a gallery, and the performance space is set up with eight seat rounds so you get to meet new people each time you go.

Cyrille Aimée will be gracing the stage for this particular visit and brings her Afro-Caribbean sensibility of the Dominican Republic to the music. A matchless interpreter of song, she has worked with Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove, performed at the Apollo in Harlem, got an invitation from Steven Sondheim to star  in a tribute and has received a Grammy nomination.
